@Mira, Shavony, I think I may have to take a break as well. I was trying to read it last night and I just couldn't. I unfortunately find myself disinterested. I can't believe it's taken the author until chapter 50 to start moving things along!!

I finally started the book an hour ago! I'm fifty three pages in so far. Nothing has quite happened yet but Karou isn't dead, yay!!!

I really don't know what to make of this book. Maybe because it's kinda sad and I don't like sad stories? (I do prefer humor) Or maybe because it's so well written and yet I can't seem to enjoy it? Or maybe because it's long (I prefer shorter books) and no matter how much I read, it doesn't feel like I'm making progress? I don't know. Only reason I kept reading up to chapter 55 now is because I really hate leaving books unfinished. It is getting more and more interesting [And breaking my heart in the process] I'll give you that. But working up to the interesting part just felt like work to me.

21% I see what you guys mean by nothing really happening. The thing is, a lot of stuff is happening, it's just not like super exciting stuff. I like it so far. It might because I'm enjoying all the different perspectives.

I haven't yet, but I have read a few parts towards the end. I'm kind of scared for what's going to happen in the next book.

(view spoiler)[ From what I gathered, it looks like there is going to be a war on Earth between some united Chimaera and Angels and something called The Dominion. And Karou and Akiva haven't gotten back together, which makes me sad, because they're like super cute. Also, Issa comes back. I'm guessing Brimstone saved her. I think that's about it. lol, If I just read from where I was instead of looking ahead, I'd probably be done by now. (hide spoiler)]

I think this is the least satisfying book I have ever read. Not in any technical way but the story itself. Things just kept getting worse and worse and when you think it might get just a little bit better it gets much MUCH worse. It depressed me. It really did.

For most of it I was bored. Up to maybe 75% I was just reading because I want to finish it and it was just sad and depressing. The last 25% were absolute torture. It got so bad that I couldn't believe it when (view spoiler)[ she killed Hazael. She just killed him! How could she? And even though I was devastated, I have to admit, it was the best part of the book. I almost held my breath reading the lines. And Akiva's reaction! Oh. My. God. Wow. It was so well done I got tingles and chills all at the same time. I can't wait to see what he does with his magic in the next book. And I think the Stelians are going to be very interesting to read about as well as Akiva's history. (hide spoiler)] I think if I were to rate only that part I would give it SIX stars. But ONLY that part. And then there's the ending (view spoiler)[ that was the least satisfying of all. What was that? What. The Hell. Was That? It was like half a book just like the first book. They both had ends that were non-ends really. I don't like reading over FIVE HUNDRED pages and then feel like I haven't finished. That was annoying. And Ziri? Do we really have to have a love triangle? Things are bad enough. And sad enough. And the war. Oh the war. Horrible in EVERY way. Gruesome and awful. No one is immune. Everyone could die. Actually most of the people I liked DID die. Brimstone? Hazael? And the worst part is the hope that they could come back and then crushing that hope in every possible way. (hide spoiler)]

By the time I finished I was angry and in a bad mood. It got to me. And I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I did not enjoy reading this and I just needed a break. And I'm kind of wishing I never started this series because now I HAVE to read the third book. And I KNOW it's gonna be just as devastating and depressing as the first two.

It wasn't about the war for him, it was always about her. I know that means it is still his fault but I didn't have it in me to blame him. I think it's just a messed up situation, you know? 77% I'm almost done!!! Things are heating up, I'm excited, and a little scared though. I really don't like Ten or Thiago, they suck. Ten reminds me a little of Chiro. What's with Karou/Madrigal having to hang out with mean people, like seriously?

I finished! I'm sad, of course, because I want to know what's going to happen. Now we have to wait until like May or something crazy like that!!! Seriously Karou has such bad odds that they are practically evens. She has evens. I really hope not too many "people" die in the next book, but I'm betting a lot are going to. :(

@Andrea This book depressed the hell out of me. (view spoiler)[Hazael's death broke my heart and pissed me off. I felt really bad for Akiva all through the book. I admire his commitment to the cause which is something Karou seemed to forget or ignore. But seriously, it was sad and depressing and there was no "rest for the wicked" no "up" moments. Nothing. Everything is just from bad to worse. Karou's willful ignorance is what got her in this mess. That scene where Akiva appeared to her in the kasbah? She broke his heart. again. And the end sucks! What is that? Not even a bit or reconciliation? Nothing? This book could be summed up in one page and it might even be too long. It's like a prequel to the next book. Or a prologue. A very long prologue. I sincerely hope the next one is not as bad this. (hide spoiler)]

@Mira. I know!!! I feel like some interesting stuff happened, but not enough. This sometimes happens with sequels in trilogies. The author wants a lot to happen in the third, which takes away from the second. I feel like this could have just been a two book series. There's nothing wrong with only 2!! Maybe 3 is not a magic number!!!! (view spoiler)[ I can't believe what the wolf tried to do to Karou though. I wanted to kill him, he's evil and disgusting. I'm also scared for Lir, I feel like Jael is playing with her and now she doesn't have Hazael to protect her. Also since Hazael died and Brimstone died, now Karou and Akiva both have a lot of grief and they should stop moping and being stupid. C'mon, you belong together, stop trying to deny it. And Ziri!!!?!?!?! OHMYGOD, THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOVE TRIANGLE, NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I like Ziri and I want him to be happy, but why did he have to love Karou too? I was disgusted and surprised at Thiago. I thought he was evil sure, but it was beneath him to do such a thing. At least he was dead. I felt a bit better that something ended.

Jael on the other hand is a disaster waiting to happen. He's a poor excuse for a human being. Well, he's not exactly human but you know what I mean. I'm worried about Liraz but I think Akiva's got her back even if Hazael is not around.

And I think I commented on the love triangle before, I HATE it. Do we really have to have a love triangle? Isn't there enough going on? Poor Ziri. I share how you feel though, that he would be good with Liraz. I noticed that somewhere when it was his pov he referred to her as the "beautiful girl" I think that's a start. I hope it goes that way because generally I HATE love triangles and this story does not neeeeeed one. It has too much going on already. (hide spoiler)]

The problem might be that right before this book I read Also Known As and it was very happy and didnt have such a sad tone to it. What is weird is that when I'm reading it I like it but I just have a hard time picking it up again.

@Shavony I see what you mean. It's boring when she does that. Retelling something from a different POV, I mean. It didn't, and doesn't, add to the story. It just adds to the length of the book which is one of the reasons I hated it.

@Brooke It's not weird at all. It happens to me all the time. Once I start reading I get into it but when I stop I never feel like starting again. I'm not sure why that happens though 8D & I agree. It is too sad.
