Finished till Chapter 14 (oops - I did not put the book down until now once I started reading)

(view spoiler)[ Firstly, I did not know how to pronounce Karou the right way and I am still not sure if I'm pronouncing it right. Secondly, when Akiva was introduced, I did not know how to pronounce Akiva the right way either. When I started reading, I was extremely confused by what was happening but as the story picked up, I got a clearer picture of Karou and the world she lives in. Can I just say - I love Karou! I think her character is very funny and she doesn't try hard.

Oh, and Karou is a teeth dealer. I was disturbed by this at first (still kind of am) because a 17-year old dealing teeth, going on random errands, for some random chimeras just because she's asked to? Disturbing. Um, and the fact that she seems (almost) completely fine with this? Like, oh yes, dealing with teeth of dead humans and exotic animals is totally normal. Also, I had a hard time picturing the chimeras but after a bit of googling, I'm all good.

I'm trying to figure out what Karou is - because clearly she is not human (blasting some otherworldly power at Akiva???) I'm wondering if she is a devil?? (well, since the whole main quote of this book is “Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love. It did not end well" Or she might be a mix of devil and angel?? Because she was brought up by chimeras so... I don't know. But I think the story picked up considerably once Akiva was introduced and I'm excited to see what happens next! (hide spoiler)]

i believe it is pronounced Kah-roo. At least thats how its pronounced in the audiobook.

I love this scene with Kaz. It always makes me laugh so hard and i can picture it perfectly, down to Karou trying to contain her laughter. The end of the chapter where she talks about wanting to be loved always bums me out a little :(

Finished chapter 33 (once again, I did not put it down once i started chapter 14... sigh)

I'm confused and kind of worried about Karou becuase there is much more to where she comes from and who she is - and she is attempting to go to Eretz without knowing anything apart from what Akiva told her and what she thinks she knows? Plus, she's starting to forget her name? All warrior chimeras have the hamsas? So if she is not a warrior why does she have the hamsas? She has a connection to Akiva? She knows the scars on his shoulders without ever seeing them? Akiva thinks Karou reminds him of Madrigal? SO MANY QUESTIONS. I have my theories about what is happening, but I think it's too early for me to come to any conclusions.

Then there is the issue of the war. I did not expect the story to turn out so extreme - all of a sudden, Brimstone is talking about war? Akiva's perspective seems to blame the Chimeras for all the deaths but as Karou believes, I'm sure there's much more to the story. I cannot imagine sweet Brimstone and the other 3, who brought up Karou with so much love, to be part of something sinister. (Even though I got extremely pissed when Brimstone threw Karou out!! Why did he do something so rash? If he were to listen to what had actually happened to Karou, I'm sure he would have ensured that she stays safe and protected at all costs.)

Also, even though I'm loving the chemistry between Akiva and Karou, I hope we get to know more about the pull that they both have towards each other! Oh, and I hope that they don't leave each other.

Lastly, appreciation goes out to Zuzana. She has been an extremely wonderful character and a great friend to Karou since the beginning and I love how she took Karou's whole crazy history in stride!! And I love that even though she is not obliged to, she still cares deeply about Karou and her well-being. (hide spoiler)]

I love when Karou spills the beans to Zuzana. I imagine it like word vomit that she cant stop. I hate knowing that she cant find the chimaeras but i enjoy her interaction with Bain and how she finds his wishes. Its disgusting that he just ties them in his beard. Yuck. I really enjoy Karou and Zuzanas friendship, especially when Karou gives her the gifts for her performance. I never noticed how much they focus in Karous emptiness and feeling lonely but it really makes sense with her true identity

Her and Akiva are perfect together. All their interactions are just. I dont know how to put it. I love the chemistry and how they joke around but also how protective he is of her. Especially when he cries at her feet. I love the idea of her finally feeling "full and whole" and understanding of what Brimstone has done after they break the wishbone.
