I started this book today and I am already half way through, it is quite enjoyable, albeit a bit slow in some places. However, that doesn't matter since I cant put it down for very long

I'm rereading this book- it and its sequels were my favorite books I read in 2014. But I never got to discuss it very much with anyone, so I'm interested what you guys think.
I loved everything about this series- the plot, characters, themes, fantasy, romance, humor. It's so quirky and unique. Karou and Zuzana are amazing, as is their friendship. I'm also just read Laini Taylor's book Lips Touch: Three Times (which was also fabulous), and it made me notice how masterfully she uses details to make her stories come alive. Her writing casts a spell over me.

Up to chapter 6. I'm finding it as whimsical, enchanting, and charming as the first time.
(view spoiler)[Some things that have stood out for me so far that I think Laini Taylor has done well and make this book better than a lot in this genre:
1. The humor. I don't often find well incorporated humor that truly amuses me in fantasy, but I love the banter here and, of course, the whole cranny itches scene. (Isn't that such a great revenge for on a cheating ex that doesn't cross any ethical lines?)
2. Karou and Zuzana's friendship. I was trying to come up with the last time I read a YA fantasy book with a strong, unconditional female friendship and was drawing a blank.
3. Unique world building. Although the term chimaera comes from Greek mythology, Brimstone, Issa, and the others seem to be original and creative and largely from the author's imagination. And then there's the very strange mystery of the teeth...
4. The quality of the writing. (hide spoiler)]

I think I'd rather be able to breathe and swim underwater than fly, actually. But assuming that perfect health would require a bruxis, I'd probably wish for longer life for my pets or more books by my favorite authors.

I think my favorite thing about the book is that I just simply love Karou- she's so cool, creative, mysterious, sassy, strong, loyal, and has a conscience. She's a badass, but she's still relatable and vulnerable. (hide spoiler)]

2. It took me a while to grasp the concept of the chimaera, but it definitely won me over. The concept and her world building is unique.
3.Zuzana is one of the best supporting characters ever. She's is spunky, funny, and her unconditional loyalty is superb.
4. If I have a gavriel, I would ask for unlimited passes to travel the world...might be a bit expensive though.
5. I have to say Karou bordered on Mary Sue at the start because of her numerous talents and abilities, and I was glad she showed that vulnerable side of her halfway through the story, it made her more...human, in a sense. I love Madrigal and Akiva's story, it's simply sweet.
