Did Erastus Carthage and Thomas seem a bit too much like Mr. Burns and Smithers from The Simpsons

I found many problems with this book, such as a seeming lack of scientific procedure; the fact that there seemed to be only four scientists working on the whole project; the fact that the chief scientist from the exploration was on night duty; the fact that no one researched the Judge as soon as they discovered his name; but the fact that I could not held picturing Mr. Burns and Smithers from The Simpsons in the roles of Dr. Carthage and Thomas was the most disconcerting. Does anyone share my feelings?

I actually did not finish this book, gasp. It was so boring, the characters were lifeless and the story was slow moving, like an iceberg. (pun intended) I agree with June, good idea, but not well done.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the ending with Dr. Kate becoming a teacher, but what happened to the Judge? He went down a whirlpool? Kinda surprised they didn't hook up. Was very saddened by him missing his family so much. Not walking his daughter down the aisle when she got married or being there for his wife when their daughter passed giving birth.
