Wow, I can't believe I've never heard of this before! Thanks for the info. Are you (or anyone else reading this) doing anything to celebrate? :)

Last year my family and I made a dinner with all of the food that Bilbo brings out at the unexpected party (in Chapter 1 of the Hobbit). We also put candles inside jars and hung them up in the tree in our front yard (our party tree). And we tried to dress like hobbits. It was fun. Not sure what I'll do this year....

That is so awesome! I am totally going to do something this year, although I think my sister is probably the only one that would celebrate with me haha

The Mythgard Student Tolkien Day Webathon.
This twelve-hour event will stream live over the Internet starting at 11:00 am EDT and will run continuously until 11:00 PM EDT.
It sounds as if it is going to be great fun as well as very interesting.
