What the heck happened to Theon Greyjoy?? you hear not of him in the book... anyone know??

I'm a bit confused here. Theon was with Robb then home then plundering winterfell then he just disappears.. am I missing something??

He does come back.....In the series anyway so am sure he turns back up in the books

I mean in the book.... Not in the HBO series....
the series follows the books quite closely with very few changes. .....
He appears again in the sixth book, as a POV character.
The sixth book?? I thought there were only 5 out... A game of thrones, a clash of kings, a storm of swords, a feast for crows and a dance with dragons....what's the sixth..am I missing something here???
Book 6, Winds of Winter, isn't supposed to be out until 2015...:(

I actually find Theon one of the most interesting characters. Most people hate him. Like him or not, there's plenty more of him coming your way.I was wondering if anyone else has any sympathy for the character?
I love and hate Theon all at once lol he is a very interesting character... I find myself asking what I'd do in his situation. He's a very interesting character. I miss him
I have always liked Theon and felt very sorry for him. His whole story is tragic. If I were in his situation, I'd probably do the same things he's done, almost anyone would, I'm sure.
Not Eddard Stark... He'd remain loyal to the family who raise him...
Interesting thoughts. Can Theon be punished enough for the horrendous crime he commits? Has he been? I think it is a very difficult question to answer. We can understand his motivations, feel his pain, but can we really forget our contempt?
As of now, I loathe Theon will ever fiber of my being, but I haven't read Book 5 yet. In all earnestness though, it would take a LOT for my to sympathize with him, let alone like him...
I can see the reason he did what he did, even if I think he should have acted differently. He was stolen from his home when he was no more than a child, he grew up in fear, trying to convince himself he hated the Starks, he had only one friend. Theon was neither Stark, but he wasn't like any of the other Greyjoys we've been introduced to. He's a lot like Jon, but instead of feeling sorry for himself, he just angers at people around him. You must remember he was actually trying to bring the Iron Islands to Robb's side of the war, but he then had to choose between his family, doesn't matter how bad they are and the son of the man who kept him a hostage for 10 years. He didn't make all the right choices, but he didn't have right life either. *SPOILER* In my opinion, Theon has suffered more than enough, the crimes people blame him for the most were the ones he didn't commit, I can't even say what I think would be the best end for him now, to have a quick and clean death or still be alive and suffering, being the shell of who he was or who he could have been, had his life been different. I can only hope there will happen something that brings him peace. He has walked his path of redemption and now is the time for him to finally be free of all that was put upon his shoulders. He did some cruelties, but he suffered more than anyone should suffer. Even if I had hated him before, it'd be impossible for me to hate him now. Especially after all he has gone through. *SPOILERS OVER* That's just my two cents really, but Theon's whole story just brings a lot of thoughts to my mind, he's a very complex character and his actions can be both right and wrong, depending on the way you're looking at it. I think it's just too tragic, he lost all opportunities he could have had, but in ASoIaF almost all characters did.
I see the basis for your reasoning Dustin - killing kids is pretty darn harsh. But his is yet a sad story. Ally, I wouldn't go as far as redeeming him, but Jaime Lannister is a similar character evolution (except he's more likable personality-wise perhaps), and yet many are eager to redeem him. he pushed Bran out of a window!

Hey, Jason, it's always wonderful to see your posts here! Sad, yes, but there's still no justification for what he did. We all make mistakes, I realize, but that goes above and beyond a mere "mistake"..That's a good point about Jaime. I didn't like him at first either, but I am rooting for him and love how his character has evolved over the last few books.
I liked him in Game of Thrones and was truly disappointed in him in Clash of Kings.The way I see it Theon lost two brothers of no fault of his own but gained six siblings ( counting Jon here ). Ok so he only felt close to Robb but even so, the Starks were as much of a part of his life as the Greyjoys were.
I just wish Robb was the one to capture him.
I've only just started reading his POV in Dragons so my point of view may change later.
The same here, I liked what we saw of him in Thrones..Hehe, Jon Snow shall always be a Stark in my eyes!

I am curious as to what his chapters are like in Dragons, but I'm not looking forward to seeing him again, particularly...

Then The Bolton bastard in a attempt to save Winterfall has capture Theon. We do not hear any more about Theon until book 5.

I agree with you both, Cheryl and Dustin. Redemption is a tough sell, I agree. But I can understand the pressures he felt were upon him. That certainly doesn't excuse his crimes and he should be punished for them. But the fact that I can understand where he's coming from despite his heinous acts is a tribute to Martin's skill at crafting a multi-dimensional character.
To be fair I think he has been punished...I'd say we have no say in whether he is forgiven or not, I'll leave that to a Stark to decide.
