What do You think of the First Chapter?

I haven't started reading yet and realized that the chapter format might be a little difficult. You live and learn. Let's start with a discussion of the first few sections. I'll change the end section in a day or so.

I've recently finished the first four chapters. What did you think of Bran's perspective of the beheading. He's a seven year old boy and watching a man get decapitated. It seemed like a non event. I was surprised by how young many of the characters are. If you watch the tv series I would never have guessed that John Snow was 14 or Bran 7. This seemed to make the trials they go through even more thrilling and terrifying. Later in chapter four you find out that Dany is 13. I can't imagine being forced into marriage at that age.

It was interesting to see the inner thought processes that people have. Scenes in the tv series that are two seconds long take on a new meaning when you can see into the head of the character.

What did you think about the meaning behind the death of the mother direwolf. That seemed to be of significance to many characters but they don't really say what the meaning could be. What is the bad omen?
