Chapter 6: (view spoiler)[ This is a reread for me. I read it first about 4 years ago so I know the general gist of the happens in this book but the rest of the series is completely washed out of my head. This used to be one of my favourite series in elementary school (probably not once I should've been reading, to be honest) and I'm feeling the nostalgia right now. I also forgot a lot of this stuff and I'm enjoying reconnecting with Rose. One thing that surprised me that I didn't remember is that Rose is mixed and she was cast as white in the movie. It kinda sucks that whenever book to movie adaptations happen the protagonist is almost never cast as a POC. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 13: (view spoiler)[ This isn't as amazing as I remember it being, but I'm still really liking it. It's pretty lighthearted so far and I love Rose as a character (which is why I'm hoping that Richelle Mead writes more about her sometime). I don't really remember what happened but I have a feeling that whoever is leaving Lissa dead animals is testing to see whether she will bring them back. I think killing them so violently is to ensure that they are most definitely, 100% dead. (hide spoiler)]

I've been having a really great time meeting all the characters again, who I've forgotten the names of over the years. Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[ I love the world building in this. I find it so amazing that Mead created such an elaborate vampire world that exists within human society. Chapter 9: (view spoiler)[ I'm disappointed. The writing for the romance scene in this was actually decent but I can't appreciate it. There's been like 1 interaction between Christian and Lissa. Chapter 19: (view spoiler)[ Okay, I'm pretty pissed about Rose and Lissa's situation. I just feel like Rose could have handled things better. She could have told them about Rose's secrets later on when they were both clear headed. What she did will just push Lissa into more of a depression. I get that she's trying to be responsible for Rose but she has to consider Lissa's mental well-being too. The ending to this chapter was shocking. I don't know why it was so surprising that Mia slept with both of them. But it somehow shocked me as much as it did Rose. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 20: (view spoiler)[ Okay, I still like Dimitri and Rose but Mason's making it hard when he's that devoted to her lol. Whoa this chapter's crazy. So much happened. WHAT ABOUT LISSA?! I think Rose got hypnotized or something. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 22: (view spoiler)[ Goodness, this chapter was such a tease. But I KNEW IT! Something was off about Victor. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 23 (view spoiler)[ Not that i agree with what Victor's doing right now, it's really too bad. He would have made the Moroi and their guardians fight together again. I actually agree with that idea. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! Final thoughts:
(view spoiler)[ I really liked this book and to be honest, I'm not completely sure why. It could be the girls themselves. I loved Rose and her cattiness. I'm not a big fan of Lissa because she was spineless for most of the book and when she finally wasn't, she went crazy. But overall, I think it was a great story compared to the many other vampire books out there. This one definitely stood out. I loved the world and the hierarchy of the Moroi, Dhampirs and even Strigoi. It was very well thought out and developed. I love that although Lissa's powerful, the power takes a toll on her and even if it causes her to spineless, I liked that there was balance to her power. I loved the bond between the girls and how much they cared about each other. I enjoyed the constant scandals being revealed throughout the book. I didn't realize until now how much it did for character developments. I can't say much for the romance between Lissa and Christian. They're cute together but it was super insta-love. Even at the end of the book, I laughed when the book touched on the subject on them finally getting together and finally not caring about what anyone else thought. I did like the romance between Rose and Dimitri. There was build up, developments, the tease, and finally the forbidden love/relationship. There's even going to be a love triangle, of course...

What I love most about this book is the potential for the other books that I'm very much looking forward to reading. With such developed characters and a well-built world, crazy stuff is bound to happen. (hide spoiler)]

Dimitri and Rose are okay, I'm not super in love with them as a couple as I thought I would be which is weird. I do like that he acknowledges that there is a lil bit of an age difference. I think that Lissa and Christian aren't as cute as they were in the film and I don't know why - I liked them in the last book a lot more than in this, they did seem pretty instalovey. Victor was also pretty shady from the beginning so I'm glad he got what was coming.

The ending was also a bit different which I was both expecting and not expecting.
