This just happened to me. I was about 100 pages into an older book when I found got a just released book by a different author that I had been waiting for. My dilemma was continue reading the older book-which in this case was BOM-or stop and read the new book. How do you handle the situation?

Go with whichever you want to read more! That's what I would do. You can always come back to the other one afterward. :)
I would do the same. You have the whole month to read the BOM. And I've been known to have three or four books going at the same time.
I am like that too. I loved our BOM, but I so wanted to read the new book. I figure I am not as disciplined as I use to be-reverting to my second childhood.
I have found that if I put off a book for sometime due to work or some other book I want to read more, I have a really hard time getting back to the previous book. It's been almost a year, I guess, that I stopped reading Nicholas Sparks' The Best Of Me in the middle and several books later, I still haven't gotten back to it. Something more interesting always pops up when I think of finishing it. :p
I know I want immediate gratification. I don't want to wait to read the new book so I usually put the older one down until I have read the new woman.
it was depend on the author and my own mood. If my fave author release her new book, then definitely I`ll put the one I was currently reading. Just few days ago sudenly I was struck with the mood to re-read LH books. So I left the one I was reading, and just grab Dying to Please, Diamond Bay then follow up with Heartbreaker. All in one night. Left me sleepy the next day though. And until.today I haven`t continue reading the I left aside.

When I do that it is usually a sign that the book I was reading was not that great. I am having that with Devil's Bride. I have to discipline myself to read it.
