Adel what is it you do with Mmed. There is a reason I'm asking but I need to know if this is what I think. Does it have to do with doctors.

That's why I asked. Good luck though, I can't imagine how hard it is to become one.

Adele has loads of ER experience... :-)

The first book by an SA author I read was by Dennis Brutus, Simple Lust. Joining this group just made me remember that. I was still at university and had no idea of SA history. Even when I came to Cape Town in 1994, I knew practically nothing. Honestly.
I prefer reading poetry to prose.

Hey Jim, it's great wherever you post.
There's places where you can post your own work and a column for SA poetry.
Always great to have a new member

We have a hundred members! Been going 6 months and have a hundred members! Exciting stuff! Welcome all!

I've just recently self-published my first novel, a crime thriller called "The Sorrow" (it's on Goodreads) so I'm pretty excited to share it and future works with fellow South Africans :D
I've been introducing myself a lot lately in emails and websites, so I think my bio gives a good breakdown :P
About me:
I am a broody yet overly passionate writer who has been creating stories and worlds and dreaming of publication since I was eleven years old and still drawing comics in my scrapbooks. Now I feel that I am at a place where I am confident enough in what I have learnt to start putting my work out there. I have a burning hunger to improve as writing is one of the most significant parts of my life. Sadly my creativity can't really be put to use in my degree, but fortunately I am able to channel my energy into writing every day. When I'm not involved with my stories I am posting daily on the South African gaming and entertainment website, EGMR, as an Editor, Journalist, Reviewer and YouTube Channel Host, where I've been involved since its birth in February 2009. What else can I say? I suppose if I'm being honest I'm also a sociopath and a sugar-addict, so there's that.
Welcome Azhar.
That's quite a list of achievements.
For me, sociopath has severe negative connotations, please elaborate.

Thank you! Haha that part has always been a joke that came about from my friends :) When being described with the letter S at one point, "sugar-addict" and "sociopath" were frequently joked about, with the latter being because of my warped and twisted sense of humour. It was never meant to be taken seriously. I apologise for any misinterpretation, and will look at changing/removing it in the bio if it leads to that.
Just a comment. In my world, sociopathy is met with hostility as it implies someone who deliberately violates the rights of others. I was assuming that that wasn't what you were admitting to.
Anyway, welcome to the group Azhar.
We will definitely check out your work.

Thank you! I appreciate that greatly :) Looking forward to enjoying it here. Very cool to discover this community today.

I love a good thriller !
Many favourite authors including Lee Childs, David Baldacci, Simon Kernick, Vince Flynn, Linwood Barclay, Harlan Coben, SJ Bolton, and more.
I love my films, published a film book many years ago, I collect signed autographs, help my wife with her jewellery.
Love my music, and play tennis 3-4 times a week and try to read 1-2 books a week.
Just a shame I have to work, just don't have time.
My wife and I love travelling, we loved our trip to South Africa, we had four weeks in SA.

Hi Sean, Welcome.
From your travels in our country you probably know that South Africans are warm, friendly and a tad eccentric.
Adele, do we need to spring clean?

It's been a while since anyone has introduced themselves, yet there have been new members in some threads. Please pop by and say hi.

That is in Gauteng, for those who don’t know. I’m a Goodreads Author, and have published four books on Kindle and other electronic formats.
My hobbies are many and varied, but usually adventurous, such as reading, hiking, biking, caving and batting. I have a blog here on Goodreads, as well as an author page. On that subject, there is a point I keep on having to clear up – there is more than one author called Leon de Kock in South Africa. To find out exactly which one I am, I suggest you visit my website www.leondekock.com. The problem is that people keep adding books to my profile that were not written by me, and there is no way for me to stop that from happening. Visiting my website will tell you exactly which Leon de Kock I am.
Anyways, with that out of the way, I will be giving more information on my books in the other sections of this group.
Lisa, thank you for running this group, and for the opportunity to introduce myself here.

I'm a Young Adult paranormal romance South African author who lives in Joburg. Love to read and review books too!

I've been trying to diversify the books I read this year. The first South African author I read wrote a romance novel I absolutely loved (and I intensely dislike most romances so that was quite an accomplishment). Definitely piqued my interest in SA lit.
Looking forward to reading books with this group. :)

What SA book did you read. We look forward to reading with you."
The Unwanted Wife by Natasha Anders. I actually didn't realize it was set in South Africa until the second book in the series. I was pretty confused a couple times in the first book, lol.

It was advertised on Goodreads earlier this year. Otherwise I never would have found out about it, haha.

I'm Lena Ski and I published my first book a few months ago on Amazon. Really proud of it.
