Esther (nyctale) | 5190 comments Where do you like to read beside home?

I went to one of my spots this afternoon, enjoying one of my last day off. I am sure I am not the only one who does this. My favorites tend to be near water. I have a few spots but this one is at a walking distance from my place.

Janice (jamasc) | 59847 comments What a gorgeous place to read, Esther.

I read in the car (audiobooks), in bed, and in an airport/airplane. I do like to read on a beach, but my skin is still peeling from my last beach read in August.

Kimberly | 2033 comments I like reading outside in our yard, at the cottage, on the beach and at the library. I also read a lot on the bus and train.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I mainly read in bed but will also read outside in our garden, on an airplane/at the airport and on the beach. I never read in the car or on the bus because it makes me feel sick.

message 5: by Ann (new)

Ann (disciple45) I read on the porch, in the living room, in the bedroom, in the car (except when I'm driving) on any public transport, anywhere I have to wait more than 5 minutes and anywhere else I can. I do like outdoor reading a lot in nice weather, especially.

Chrissie Absolutely anywhere and everywhere.

Sarah | 18549 comments What an amazing place to read Esther - you are very lucky. I tend to read at home in my sitting room, in bed, and on my breaks at work. I can't read when I'm on the bus/driving (obviously) so I listen to audiobooks then. I always have a book with me so if I'm stuck for something to do I'll get it out and read wherever that might be. I do occasionally go to a coffee shop and order a drink and read for a bit if I have a gap between clients.

I might have to think about a nice place to go and read although the weather is starting to get cooler now so it will have to be inside!

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I read in our car while my husband is driving. I read on a plane when we are traveling and also at our library, school when I have a break, gym while waiting for a class and just about anywhere when I have a few minutes. I am able to read anywhere at any time - I always have a book or my I PAD with me. And if I'm not physically reading I listen to an audio tape.

Marnie (marnie19) | 3254 comments Esther- that looks like a lovely reading place!!
I always have something to read or an audiobook with me in case I can squeeze in some reading. I like to be early ( I go into a panic if I think I will be late ) for appointments which never bothers me as long as I have a book. Before the time of ereaders I would often pack for trips way more books than I could ever read because heaven forbid I run out of reading material.

Kimberly | 2033 comments While Darren & I were at the cottage I would spend a lot of the day reading by the lake until the sun got too low

and if I wasn't reading at the beach I'd be reading somewhere on the property like this:

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I mostly read in bed or on the couch, but I do like being outside on a nice day at our apartment's pool, or just in a nice shady spot.

message 12: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I mostly read in bed or in my recliner in the living room, but I also like to read or listen to a book on my iPod while I am sitting in my car. I like to find a nice place to park and have a cup of coffee while I read. It is an escape, like the book for me. I occasionally read at the library or the coffee shop too.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Oh, I read in my car, too. And while working out at the gym.

Love the great photos, btw.

message 14: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4524 comments I always have a book or my kindle with me so I tend to read everywhere. At home I read in a comfy chair in the living room, in bed before going to sleep, in a recliner in a spare bedroom if I want quiet, outside on the porch, at breakfast with my coffee before getting ready for work. At work I'll read in the break room (if I have lunch at all) but it tends to be noisy. But my all time favorite is definitely at the beach in Aruba. The sea, sun, and a good book. Heaven.

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments Such inspiring places to read! Although I find myself easily distracted - I'm best focused when I'm reading in bed, no TV or sounds around me!

This summer I read a lot in my garden. Not the most inspiring place as I'm using the term 'garden' loosely, but I also have a nice comfy chair in my living room where I can stare out at people going by on the street if my book is boring ;)

I never used to read on buses/trains because of motion sickness, but now I just read anyway - and try and convince myself I don't feel nauseous!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, poor Kat.

I find that I do not read outside in my yard because I start to feel guilty that I am reading instead of working - pulling weeds, etc.

I just concentrate on the book Cherie ;) if I don't see weeds, they do not exist!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Yeah, kind of like convincing yourself that you are not nauseous, huh??? I agree though. I can pretty much shut EVERYTHING out when I read - ask my daughters. :D

message 19: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I have a hard time reading in bed with my husband while he's watching TV. He's a channel-surfer, big-time, and I get pulled into some shows before he switches channels and I find it very distracting. So, lately, I've been on the couch in the living room.

I'm so glad I don't get motion-sickness when reading in the car! Kat, I don't know how you convince yourself to ignore that awful feeling!

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Me neither Debra. It quite quickly makes me feel sick - audiobooks all the way for car/bus travel. Oddly though I can read normal books on the train and plane!

message 21: by Peggy (last edited Sep 10, 2013 02:23AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments What a beautiful place Esther! I wish I had something like that.

I have the same as you Sarah: no problems at all reading on the train or plane, but I get sick within seconds if I try to read in a bus or car. Boats aren't good for reading either.

I read on the couch (although my boyfriend watching tv can be distracting sometimes) and I love reading on my balcony. Unfortunately it's too cold there most of the year (and it hardly gets any sun), so I have to save that for the summer months. I wish I had a garden! Sometimes in spring or summer on Saturdays when my boyfriend has to work I go to my parents house and read in their sunny garden :)

I also like to read on the train, but other people's conversations distract me. Luckily Dutch trains have silence areas, where talking is not allowed (I wish everyone would stick to that though!), so I always sit there and usually it's quiet enough for me to read.
