I've never read the Selection, but I'm currently reading Graceling and I agree there are a lot of similarities. Her (view spoiler)[braid in her hair reminds me of Katniss from the Hunger Games as well (hide spoiler)].

I have a sneaky feeling that (view spoiler)[ we may see a love interest between her and the young King (hide spoiler)]. Do you agree?

Hi! I read chapter 5 and I totally agree with you :) I didn't read Graceling but it reminds me The Selection, also if the plot is completely different ^^
I already read the first prequel of this book so I knew Celaena, I really like her, she's strong :D She reminds me June of Legend...
So far I like also the Maas's style :)

I'm about 120 pages in and I love it!! I've been reading it slowly so it's not over with so fast lol. I love the characters and the author's writing style so much.

I just finished the other book I was reading, so now I can focus my attention on this book - I need to read it faster because I borrowed it from one of my students and he is waiting patiently (or maybe not so patiently) for me to read it so he can talk about it with me.

My ebook was due, but I found a real copy from the library that just came in and I'll pick it up tomorrow and pick right back up again. I'm glad we're all a little behind haha. Made it to page 61 and I'm liking it so far :)

They were amazing. It was a nice introduction to the characters.

I really like her writing style, too! She balances description and dialog so well.

The chapters are really short, makes it pretty easy to get through.

Gah! That (view spoiler)[ duel between Cain and Celaena was intense even though it was short. The poisoning and then the appearance of Elena and the shadow forces made the duel very intense. (hide spoiler)] I'm just flipping through the pages to the end now.

I just got my throne of glass and the other two books in the series through the post ready to start buddy reading on the 10th. The covers a stunning and artistic, so glad I got the new ones I don't like the original cover for throne of glass :D.

I'm on chapter 21, so far I am really enjoying it, it's a very exciting book! It's keeping my attention :)
(view spoiler)[ Reading the plot I didn't realise that there are some magic elements, but I thought it during the first few chapters ... you did too?
Then, I think there's something between Celaena and Chaol <3 but I also like Dorian, so far I think the love story isn't too heavy also if there is a love triangle.

However, I really like Maas's style, this book is really cool!

(view spoiler)[I love it so far. Chaol...interesting character. I won't say that I dislike him yet. The prince surely knows how to handle Calaena's attitude. I like their back and forth banter. She'll be free after 4 years, great. I like how some people underestimate her. Poor people. They're still around. The faeries. Dorian's eyes being different made me think that maybe the King isn't his father. And my hate for the Kind...reawakens. I kind of like Philippa's character but it's too soon to tell. (hide spoiler)]

Started I am up too chapter 10

(view spoiler)[I really like Celaena's character, she is pretty cool for a ya heroine. I really love her quirky personality and the fact she is actually a intelligent character rather than just a powerful one.

The plot is slow to developed the world still isn't really that clear there are talks of mythical aspects but it isn't expanded on at this point. It is starting to get fun with the assassins competition.

I have to start out by saying I despise love triangle's, the reason I haven't picked up this book before now is because I know there is one in this book as it was in the original blurb for the book, however so far I am not bothered as both male heroes have aspects I like and dislike and neither stand out at this time as the obviously better character. Up through Chapter 25

(view spoiler)[I'm really enjoying this. So much has happened. Dorian's character seems to be growing, he has a heart after all but I'm still not a fan really. There's just something about him. I love Chaol and I love Celaena and his could-be relationship. Cain has something up his sleeve. I get jitters up my spine when he appears. The markings on the stones in the garden made me wonder what they are. I think that even though Aroben would have been angry, it's good that Celaena saved Nox. I also like the princess, she's a likeable character. Elena Havilliard, silver hair, pointed ears. Oh boy! And the ring! Chaol is just love. (hide spoiler)]

I'll post my usual update after I finish my current chapter but I just wanted to mentioned this.

In chapter 34.... Chaol is in Celaena's chambers and (view spoiler)[she's bunched under the covers with her monthly cramps. It being the first time it's come in a year...it's definitely painful. She says she's indisposed and Chaol keeps thinking that she's disturbed by the gruesome murders. Then she says: "I'm truly feeling unwell."
And he replies: "It makes me sick too."

I just burst out laughing. And to be listening to the audiobook for this is even funnier. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished. I loved it. I have to say that it was quite enjoyable and I loved that there was more action than romance. What a relief as that would have been a tad bit annoying.

(view spoiler)[I'm glad Celaena wasn't portrayed as a damsel in distress. We need more heroines like her. I should have known that Cain was behind it all. I mean, with that name, it's bound to stir up trouble. Then again, Cain wasn't really behind it as he and Kaltain were manipulated. I wonder what the King and Perrington have planned. Elena and Nehemia helping during the duel was a relief. I thought Celaena would be permanently injured. I'm glad she came to her senses and ended things with the prince as she can now focus on her mission: being free in four years. For the King to threaten her with Chaol and Nehemia...he's definitely not stupid, I'll give him that. I'm glad that for the most part she's okay. (hide spoiler)]

4/5 stars from me. I can't wait to get to the other books. Hopefully I'll finish Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire before Queen of Shadows is released later this year.

I loved it, it's one of my favorite books so far ... It was really exciting and there was a bit of romance, but not too much, I think the love triangle is well run and not heavy: D

The contest is definitely heating up, I wonder why that guy ran it didn't seem like the wises time, I mean there has been many better opportunities to run in the book that the one he choose. But Chaol just seems better suited to her! She's still a fantastic main character. She doesn't take any rubbish from anyone, I love it. And it's great, because that other girl (Kaltain? I'm terrible with names) would love to walk all over her. Hopefully we focus more on the competition, and don't get too involved in what Kaltain is trying to do... (hide spoiler)]
