This is a re-read for me. I read it a few year ago and stopped after Queen of Shadow because I decided to wait until the series was complete. With Kingdom of Ash coming out it was time I started this series again from start to finish and I am loving it the second time around. I have this new appreciation for Celaena (I always loved her character to begin with)

I love when she comes in carrying the head of the person she is to have killed and drops in in front of the king. Then we find out she is not doing the kings bidding like she has been contracted to do. She is telling these people to run and hide and never come back and going to a place where recently dead people have been placed and takes one of their heads. She is pretty genius if you ask me. I also love the friendship she and Nehemiah (I know the spelling is probably wrong) have. I love how close she and Chaol are becoming. If only he would tell her or make his move. I think Dorian is more of a big brother for her. (hide spoiler)]

I am so glad that Celaena and Chaol are finally together and they are so happy. I wish that Chaol would share the info that someone has threaten Princess Nehemiah's life. I know that this ends badly for poor Chaol. He thinks he has it handled by placing more men guarding her. Celaena is told to kill a long time friend
Archer. Archer arranges a way for Celaena to find out info about this rebel clan but he planted a riddle in this office and she was discovered in the office. She was poisoned and almost killed by the info Archer had fed her.

Dorian has discovered he has magic and I also wish he would go right to Celaena with the info. Nope he goes to see a witch that is performing at a carnival on the castle grounds. She is known as Baba Yellowlegs and she is a queen of her clan.He knows if his dad finds out he will be killed. (hide spoiler)]

So Celaena discovers a catacomb in the darkest part of the library where she goes searching to see what is in this catacomb. I think she's nuts but then that's just me. If some creepy hooded thing was roaming the halls and came at me I sure as heck wouldn't go searching him out ALONE. Thankfully Dorian spots her and follows her into this catacomb and this hooded thing is after them both. This is the first time Celaena is now 100% sure of Dorain's magic. He had to use it to try to get the creepy thing to stop chasing them.

I said Chaol not sharing that the Princess had a threat made on her life would come back to bite him in the butt and it did. Chaol was kidnapped and it was a ploy to draw Celaena out of the castle so that something really tragic can take place. This tragic event is what tears Chaol and Celaena apart. (hide spoiler)]

I actually liked this book the first time but it was my least favorite of the 4 I read in this series. This time around I loved it so much more. There were things I had forgotten or didn't remember happening. Somethings I couldn't wait to have happen again. Like who Celaena was hooking up with(totally shipped that relationship)

Chaol and Celaena are now speaking again and she no longer wishes to kill him. She also makes a portal and jumps through it to save Chaol and her beloved dog Fleetfoot. This portal turns her into what she truly is and Chaol see for the first time just who Celaena is. Celaena has to deal with the witch that Dorian confided in she was doing some shady stuff that could have gotten Dorian killed. She was also going to be Baba Yellowlegs meal that day so it was kill or be killed. Chaol gott he king to put her on a boat and send her to Wendlyn thinking he was going to protect her by getting her away from the king now that he knows what she truly is. He doesn't want the king to know. She leaves Chaol with some info that will shake him to his very core and leaves him worried sick. He also just figured out who Celaena is cannot believe it. I am heading off to start the next book in this series. It's truly amazing and I loved every second of my re-read. (hide spoiler)]

And then she lost it when they couldn't get the locks off, and she gave the blood oath to Fenrys (PERFECT!) and Elide's talking to Lorcan again (well she needs to start). I hate Aedion (still) for just dissing Lysandra like that, but to be fair I can see where he's coming from. I wouldn't be able to forgive the lies and truth-withholding either. I really hope Manon gets those Crochans! And I honestly cannot wait for Yrene to meet Aelin <3 And yknow for all the revenge to start. Maeve's going to lose her shit. (hide spoiler)]
