Chapter 1-7

This is a re-read for me. I read it a little over a year ago. I whipped through the first 4 books but it odd how I don't really remember that much about them. I was so new to fantasy so I think maybe the worlds and books about faes were just not something I had ever read before.

I love the sass that Celeana has even though she has been a prisoner for the last year. She is afraid of nobody not even Prine Dorian and his Royal Guard Chaol. In the first 7 chapters the Prince and Chaol take Celeana from the prison where she has been working and being abused for the last year. They are taking her back to the castle so she can compete to be the king's champion and do the dirty work the king can;t be involved in (killing off those who oppose him or stand in his way of getting what he wants) She is given her own room and fitted for clothes. Dorian is having words with his father and it's not going well. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8-27

I love this more the 2nd time around then the first and I loved it a ton the first time. I love Chaol and Dorian's friendship. I love that Celaena trains alongside Chaol and his guards. I love that she is a lover of books and Dorian gave her books to read.

I have always routed for both men to be with her. I love Dorian and what he brings to their friendship and relationship and then there is Chaol. I love he would rather eat breakfast or lunch with her and sit and read wit her then be with his men. It's like he has to drag himself away from her company to go to work and I love it. I also love how Dorian seeks her out because she is a challenge to him. She could careless about that throne and his money. She wants to read and live life.

They have lost several champions now and something evil is in the castle mutilating the champions. Celaena found a secret tunnel from her room and she has gone exploring. She recently was visited in her dream by the past king and queen of Adarlan (their ghosts spoke to her and warned her)

Can I just say I am a fantasy addict. I know this stuff is not true but it's just so fun to escape to a land of make believe sometimes (hide spoiler)]

I am loving the heck out of this re-read so much. I usually whip through these books but I am taking my time and enjoying each chapter.

Chapters 28-44

So the champions are getting killed about 2 days before the next test. They are being gutted and their organs are being eaten as well as their brains. Chaol had Celaena go with him on the last murder and she got to see what the remains looked like. She noticed there are these wyrd marks around the bodies (these strange symbols drawn on the ground) She noticed them around the clock tower and they were also under her bed.

In this section of chapters Celaena decided to sneak into the Yulema's Ball (it's a holiday dance kind of like Christmas is what I think it sounds like. They give gifts and have a feast and a dance) She was convinced that her dear friend Nehemia might be tied to the killings and she was worried about Dorina and Chaol's saftey.

Celaena goes back into the secret tunnels and finds out Cain is behind this evil thing that is killing the champions. This creature chases her down and she get Gavin's sword and kills the ridderak (the evil creature being summoned by Cain.

I am only giving a brief synopsis of what is going on. I tend to be long winded so I am trying to be better....it's not really working for me....lol (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 45-The End

The last of these chapters of this book was gearing up to the last test. The duel between Celaena and Cain. We found out that Cain was the one one summoning the creature that was killing the champions. Every time a champion died the strength of that champion was gained by Cain. He was getting stronger and stronger from each of the deaths.

The last dual Kaltain had slipped something into Celaena drink which made her not be able to fight Cain. Cain pretty much wiped the floor with Celaena and Nehemia was there to summon some help. In case someone who hasn't read the books looks at this I don't want to ruin it. (hide spoiler)]
