Lanie (icevamp) | 17 comments I'm sorry if you found it boring. I couldn't put it down. I've read it many times, and it's one of my favorites. Everyone has different tastes. King has many fans. Not everyone is going to agree on everything. He has enough books for everyone to love.

Magpie67 | 21 comments Do you watch the reality shows on t.v.? Curious because The Long Walk is like that.... Only one person can be the winner at the end.

I dislike those shows very much, especially The Survivors ones.... I find them very boring and tedious.

Really? The only reality shows I actually watch are Survivor and The Amazing Race. I find them both really fascinating.

Lanie (icevamp) | 17 comments No, I detest reality shows. I don't think the Long Walk is like that at all. Any board game you play, there is only one winner. It's just a sporting event taken to extremes. Have you ever read or seen Battle Royale? Similar idea. It's a barbaric thought, but what I loved about it so much was the suspense, the anticipation, and the intensity of Ray Garrity. I stand by what I said. The Long Walk is an amazing story. I know I'm not alone. If you don't like it, we can agree to disagree.

Magpie67 | 21 comments I finished the book and just wasn't happy that I did... I had others tell me that TommyKnockers would get better and when I closed the book I was mad for reading it...

He has so many other most fantastic, awesome titles that these two are bland in my opinion. It's been fun to chat about it, if you loved it great....

Lanie (icevamp) | 17 comments Well, Magpie67, not everyone is going to like all the same books. Some people are drawn to King for different reasons. I love horror, prose and character exploration - not all of these appeal to everyone. You can still love King, but love specific type of books. Not everyone likes "Eye of the Dragon" but a lot of people do. I couldn't get into "The Girl Who Loves Tom Gordon" or "Lisey's Story" or "Gerald's Game" but there are people who enjoy those too, for various reasons. I would never say that I hate anything, just that they are not to my particular taste. Tommyknockers wasn't his best, and it was ok but I wouldn't say I wasted my time reading it. Every time you read something, you can learn just as much from a book you didn't enjoy as you can from a book that you did enjoy. You learn what you don't like. For me, romances and stories that center around rich people who can't decide what pate to serve at their Saturday night soiree don't appeal to me. Give me some interesting characters with real struggles and a murder or a hidden family secret, and I'm interested. I am a very loyal King reader, so I'll read just about everything. If the subject just isn't to my liking, I may not finish it, but I will give everything a chance. I have been surprised before - sometimes I'll pick up a book, it may even be something I don't think i'll like, but maybe the way the book is written, it may be something I'll actually enjoy. I like to be surprised sometimes. And if you find out specifically WHAT you don't like about a story, an author, characters, maybe, you'll learn how to avoid those aspects that don't appeal to you in the future.

Magpie67 | 21 comments I have very few dislikes...... I'm in three real book clubs and I write a weekly column regarding books for the newspaper I work for.... I'm good at picking out what appeals to me..... and others when they ask. I read a multitude of genres to inform my readers what is out there to choose and let them decide, if it's their cup of tea.

I think Stephen King is brilliant, but these two titles will not make my re-read category. Several of his titles have left permanent footprints in my memory and I often think of them.

:o)
