Perhaps :p But I won't say a thing ;]

Carl Rick, good point about writing from life. I do so indirectly but anger, angst & affection are still there, especially with regard to growing up as a preacher's kid in a dysfunctional family.

J. David Clarke (clarketacular) | 418 comments I've written for as long as I can remember, since early childhood. I'm told that as early as 1st grade (though I can't remember it) I was writing down stories and keeping them in my desk. The teacher thought I was slow until she found them! I'm guessing they were an outlet for all the things going on in my head. Still are!

Stacy Reid | 4 comments I love reading. There were stories that I found disappointing so I rewrote them! and my journey started!

Giulia I write because I have to--if a story is in me, I just have to get it out. It's like breathing to me, I need to do it. I write because I love words. Because storytelling is in the deepest recesses of the human soul.

My writing motive is similar, Giulia. :3 My passion is storywriting/making. If I look back, story-making has been involved in many of my previous hobbies.

Oh yes. But writing does require some strength. You get alone with your thoughts alot. Part of me wishes I wasn't forced to give it up for so long but thats just the way it goes. You just have to make up for lost time when you can by giving it your all :]

We all have concepts and ideas we want to throw out there. I understand the feeling because some buddies would ask questions that I couldn't answer. :P

As my British Lit. professor said in 2012, "Writing is hard!"

J.M. Guillen (jmguillen) | 4 comments I don't even remember my first story. I've always told stories, always written.

I've never considered the question before.

I started writing when I was eight. Took it up again when I was 10 or 11 and never stopped after that till university when I was just too busy. Then started again, then stopped. I hope never to stop again. I'm miserable if I'm not writing.

But yes, it's hard. Inspiration isn't always waiting around to strike you, sometimes you have to unearth every word. Some days you hate every sentence you write. But you just have to keep at it.

Vanessa Eden Patton (vanessaeden) | 49 comments I started writing as a child. I guess I started because I would make up stories in my head and I liked them so much, I wrote them down so as to not forget them. I write now to tell feelings I didn't know I felt or to live out fantasies that are beyond my reach.
I write because that is what I do. Does that make sense?

message 66: by Mark (new)

Mark Bordner I had always had an interest in writing as well, but nothing ever made it as far as even a finished first draft for many years. I'd get a chapter or two done, then life/work happened and I'd get tired or disinterested and the thing found it's way into a box.
It was only after becoming disabled that I was able to dedicate myself full time to my passion, and out came the box. It turned out all of those false starts over many years meshed into what I'm working on now...and landed my contract with.
The action that I saw turned out to be an excellent source for realistic description of combat and a trooper's reactions to it. ( Believe me, the movies will never be truly accurate. )
Writing is awesome, as are writers. I'm very happy to have become acquainted with this group here. :)

@Vanessa, it does. When I was 10 I wrote 100 pages of a novel (That is a lot to a ten year old :p) But my computer broke and I lost it all, totes devastated!

@Mark I can imagine that to be honest. I'm glad you were able to make something so positive of your experiences :] And I'm really glad you are enjoying the group :3

Brook Tesla (mickeybell) | 53 comments Why did I start writing?
It was after my grandmother passed away, when I was 7.
I did not want to die. I wanted to live forever. "writing lasts into eternity…," my father used to say.

Brian Basham (brianbasham) | 390 comments It all started for me in 5th grade when a teacher of mine had us write a chain story. I absolutely loved it. Soon after I got into pen and paper rpg games. I had to be DM cuz no one else would do it. I went into college wanting to make video games that told an interesting story. I took a creative writing class where I wrote the best poem that I have written or will ever write. My video game work became extremely difficult because of a lack if any help with the project. I just simply could not do everything on my own. I got into music after that, and wrote a bunch of songs. I wrote a play that was written as a rap musical. I've gotten over a lot of my shyness from performing in front of people. I realized that there was no money in it for all the time and energy I put into it. It was fun at first, but it became a grind after that. I realized that I really enjoyed the writing process more than anything. Everything I had tried to do before had been about trying to tell a story. Why couldn't I just write? I had tried to write before and could not keep focused on it once I knew how the story ended. I got over that problem by making a solid outline that made each chapter interesting on it's own. I treated each chapter as it's own story. This made it easier to stick with it, and now I'm finding editing to be fun if a bit time consuming.

Katie Talbot | 6 comments I've enjoyed creative writing since high school. My English teachers always had positive reviews. But my first poem I wrote after my daughter died. I was 21, had experienced premature labor and she only lived for one week. Writing poetry has helped me through very tough times.
