Tim Benfield | 1 comments So I remember this story I read many years ago - Back in my early secondary school days I think, so around the year 2001. I think it was a short story but i can't be certain.

From what I remember the plot goes like this:

A jewish child (female I think) is hiding in the woods with some Jewish families to escape the Nazis. One of them starts telling the story of how this isn't the first time the Jews have been under attack and starts telling them the story of a Rabbi (Rabbi Leow I assume) who created a Golem in Prague many years ago to protect the Jews then.

The story flicks backwards and forwards between these two narratives, of the Jews hiding in the woods in Nazi occupied territory and the Rabbi and his Golem trying to protect the Jews in Prague.

From what I remember the end of the book is the small girl and the families get caught by the Nazis at the end but there is a twist at the end that I can't remember

I've tried going through lists of books containing Golems, the closest stories I've found (by reading summaries and synopsis') are:

"In This Season" by Harry Turtledove (I think there might have been some mention of snow in the story, maybe I'm imagining it but I think it was set in Nazi occupied Poland so I might be right)

and

Prisoner in Time: a Child of the Holocaust which has the timeline duality but not the Golem or the right plot

If anyone could help me find it I'd be most grateful

Thanks!

Tim

Tim I moved your thread down to Unsolved where you will get more people looking at it.

I also added a little more info to your title, since the more info there the better.

Tim, are you still looking for this book?

Michele | 2488 comments You might check Patricia Baer's The Golem Redux: From Prague to Post-Holocaust Fiction -- she mentions TONS of golem books and stories.
