We have entererd the final two months of this challenge and that means we can read for all the tasks now. To make it easier for everyone who still has to read for some tasks here are they all collected.

The tasks:

1) Read a novel with a parasol on the cover or in the title.
2) Read a novel about vampires.
3) Read a novel in which someone gets murdered or there is an attempted murder but this is not the main plot. So no murder mysteries or something like that.
4) Read a novel with a one-word title.
5) Read a novel set in real Victorian England. No alternate history stuff.
6) Read a novel about werewolves.
7) Read a novel that features secret societies/departments.
8) Read a novel about a curse.
9) Read a novel that has a silly accessory either in the story or on the cover. With silly I mean either something you won't expect or something you would expect but is silly in itself because of colour or form.
10) Read a novel in which an important character uses an unusual form of travel, could be one only time in the book.
11) Read a book about ghosts (last time I take requests guys :P)
12) Read a book in which the main character or his partner if the main character is male is pregnant or has a baby/small child (max. 2 years old)
13) Read a book in which gadgets play a major part
14) Read a book that features tea. Either in the title, prominently on the cover (not just a cup of tea on the cover if it could just as easily be a soda) or as the favourite drink of the main character or as something in the plot like the murder happens during tea time.
15) Read a book about a passionate love affair, sorry guys!
16) Read a book about an alternate history of Earth
17) Read a book in which the main character travels a lot.
18) Read a book in which at least one of the main characters is gay.
19) Read a book in which the main character belongs to a tight (family) unit like a clan/hive/commune etc.
20) Read any book in a series that has a spin off series. Only the book in the original series counts, not the spin off series.
21) Read a book in which the main character stands out in some way/is different from the rest because they either have or lack something the others lack or have.
22) Read a book in which the main character is a leader of some sort. (Leads a family, a business, is in a board etc.)
23) Read a book with a prominent butler or maid or some other servant.
24) Read a book in which the main character is a member of the nobility.
25) Read any book that is somehow connected to the book in a way that is not mentioned in the first 24 tasks. You can make your own connection to the series so long as it isn't based on gender or nationality of the author or main characters.

message 10: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Two things:
- I've already completed task 21
- Would The Lies of Locke Lamora count for secret societies/departments? The book features a small gang of thieves known as the Gentleman Bastards. While many people in the city know of them, everyone knows them as small time thieves. In truth they run major scams and are some of the richest people in the city, so their true nature is still a secret.

@Lu: please update here!

@Lauren S: I will look into task 21. I am at work and don't have access to my files.
And yes your book can count for secret societies.

@Carolien: I will look into task 7. Did you read something for task 24 or not, because it looks like you you did in message 13.

@Jennifer: What makes that book an alternate history?

Re: A Connecticut Yankee - The book is classified on both Goodreads and Wikipedia as an alternate history.

In it, a Yankee engineer from Connecticut is accidentally transported back in time to the court of King Arthur, where he fools the inhabitants of that time into thinking he is a magician—and soon uses his knowledge of modern technology to become a "magician" in earnest, stunning the English of the Early Middle Ages with such feats as demolitions, fireworks and the shoring up of a holy well. He attempts to modernize the past, but in the end he is unable to prevent the death of Arthur and an interdict against him by the Catholic Church of the time, which grows fearful of his power.

I just want to check before I use the book and then find out it is not relevant...
Thanks

I would hate to say no, but the trouble is that Arthur is not really a historical figure but more a mythological figure. So how is that an alternate history?

message 24: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Wait wasn't Arthur real? There is a lot of myth around him, but I thought he was still real?

Gonna google :)

No sorry to disappoint there not even sure in what period he could have lived. But there are many gaps in the list of kings before Aethelred. So he might fir in somewhere but then again stories about him only surfaced centuries after he supposedly lived so it is all very vaguem
