Celia stepped daintily down the steps. She was wearing one if her favorite dresses that had sunflowers on it. She wore her hair in two braids down the sides of her head. Her appearance looked childish, as some people would say, that day, but she didn't care.
Celia scanned the grounds for a deserted spot for her to do whatever she felt like. She started to hum to a tune that she was making up as she went on after she decided on a place quite near where she was at the moment. After a minute, a group of chatting girls popped out of nowhere and took the spot. Celia frowned and started looking around again when her eyes fell upon a girl that was quite a bit shorter than herself that stood out against the vibrant green grass.
The girl looked just like the kind of person Celia wouldn't become friends with, but her mom had recently been pushing her to make new friends so she walked over and waved with a small smile.

Victoria smiled back at the girl, looking up from the grass. She quickly scanned the girl, who was slightly taller than her. "Hello..." Victoria hesitated. She turned away for a fraction of a second, and raked her hand through her hair, turning it around.
"So... I'm Victoria." She took a step near to Celia, staring at her patiently.

Celia held out her hand awkwardly, smiling at how silly she must look.

She sighed, then giggled all of a sudden.

Celia grabbed her brads and twirled them around and she noticed how pretty Victoria looked. Victoria had features that all matched and made her look perfect. Celia never really worried about how she looked, but at this moment she was worried that someone would wonder why Victoria was socializing with someone as different as Celia.
"What about you?" Celia asked.

She started to think what it would be like if she had Celia's braids, and what it would be like to ride a horse.
"What's your favourite class?" Victoria asked, trying to take her mind of what would happen if she rode a horse.

"Yeah. I love Hogwarts. My home life isn't bad. Don't get me wrong, but I have so much time, here at Hogwarts. I can learn new things, ponder life's greatest questions, and be outside. Sorry, I'm rambling. I promise, I don't usually." Celia said. "Do you like Hogwarts? I always hope everyone does as much as I do."

She frowned, looking at her shoes. She hoped Celia didn't catch what she said, especially the 'crazy dad' part.

"Did you, by any chance, hear what I just, um...said?" Victoria asked sheepishly, fiddling with her wand.

Victoria felt very uncomfortable with talking to anyone about her crazy family. "Did you hear-hear about the c-c-c-contest?" She lied, trying to change the topic.

"No, actually. I never really hear any news. I guess it doesn't come to me, but if you would be so kind to enlighten me, I would love to know what kind of contest this is," Celia admitted. "Oops! Sorry! I broke my promise already! I'm still talking too much."
Celia was still thinking about her father. She wondered what kind of father would do that to his daughter. There was probably more to Victoria's history than lust that, but Celia didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable.

"Oh! Yes, the contest. It's a dance contest." Victoria lied. She realized that it was a horrible lie and tried to cover it up. "Well, some students got bored and decided to set up a dance contest, you know, to see the best dancer here at Hogwarts..."

Celia wasn't actually that mad in reality, but she wanted to make a point that it wasn't cool to lie. She was also not okay with Victoria, a third year, thinking she could lie to someone much older than her. Celia was too smart to fall for something like that...usually.

Victoria felt very uncomfortable, even more now that Celia discovered that she was lying and wouldn't fall for it the next time she tried to change the subject.
"Have you ever wondered what it would be like if we were all dinosaurs?" Victoria frantically tried to change the subject.

"Do you ever think about being a dinosaur? No offense if you do, but it's not a common thing to ponder upon." Celia smiled to show that she wasn't judging.

Victoria didn't like it when people called her imaginative. It made her feel different. She liked it when she was more one of the crowd. "Well, it's cool being a dinosuar." She decided.

"I suppose everyone daydreams once and a while. Do you think so?"

Victoria thought about the time in Transfiguration when she called out what it would be like to be able to go back in time.

Celia really didn't know what she thought about muggles herself. She had never really met many people that were muggles.

"I have very mixed feelings about muggles." Victoria admitted. "I hate them, like them, feel annoyed with thme..." She stopped there.

Stone faced, Celia brushed a braid behind her shoulder. She regretted bringing the topic of muggles up. She pinched herself for letting her thoughts wander to her father. Her perfect father that could never be replaced.

"I'm so sorry. If I said anything offensive." She quickly stepped closer to Celia. "Well...do you like octopi?" She asked, trying to change the topic.

Celia appreciated the fact that Victoria noticed that Celia was uncomfortable and changed the subject right away. She was grateful for that.

Victoria tried to act like an octopus, flopping her arms around.

"What's your favorite animal?"

"What about you?"

"Since were already doing favorite things, what's your favorite color?" Celia asked.

"What's yours?" Victoria asked Celia, smiling.

"Have you read any muggle books? I absolutely love them." Celia was in a spectacular muggle story right then. It was about a boy that traveled to a magical place with a dog and a bug at his side. Celia had to say that for a species that didn't know anything about Hogwarts or anything, they sure wrote a lot of books about magic.

She took her mind of muggle books by thinking about narwhals and how cool it would be if they could fly. Unconsciously, Victoria started to daze into the sky and daydreamed.

Celia saw the look on Victoria's face and wondered what she was thinking about. It was the look that Celia's mother told Celia that she had a lot. It was a far off look. A look of daydreaming.
"What do you like most about Hogwarts?" Celia asked. As she waited for an answer, Celia smoothed her dress as the wind blew it gently.

She looked down at her shoes. This conversation was drifting torwards her father.
"What about you?" Victoria asked Celia. "What do you like most about Hogwarts?

Celia never really thought about her family being muggles. Her parents didn't seem like most muggles because they accepted Celia for who she was. Even her muggle brother was sweet to Celia. Of course he was only 3 years old and didn't know much about Celia being "different," but he still was nice to her and understood her.

"Hopefully your muggles are nice." Victoria said, smiling softly at Celia. She liked this conversation with Celia, and felt like she understood Celia and herself way more.

Celia looked into Victoria's eyes and saw the sadness in them. Celia admired Victoria for being so tough with a hard past like hers. Celia still broke down at the mere mention of her father. She wished she have Victoria's attitude toward tragedy.

"You know, I like that you're able to have a conversation without thinking about your muggles." There was something in the way Victoria said your.

"Well, we probably should get going. Do you know what time it is?" Celia bit her lip and hoped that it wasn't past the time when she was supposed to drop by the library and return a book that was due.

"Well, you wanna talk sometime? Maybe I can help you get over your past?" Victoria asked. She'd totally understand if Celia didn't want to. She never really told anyone her entire past, since she was scared of the rumors that could start.

Celia was glad she had made a new friend. Even though her afternoon was spent differently then she had originally planned, she was happy that she had met Victoria. After a minute of thinking, she decided her afternoon would've been awfully boring without chatting with Victoria.
