To Allow Lending or Not

I have not finished my first book yet but I've thought about lending. Should I do it or not or why do authors allow it? As a consumer I had a bad experience with Amazon when I loaned a couple of books. They emailed me and said they were returned but it still says they are on loan if I try to open them. So I don't loan anymore just to avoid the frustration. As a future indie publisher ebook lending would take away from people buying the book wouldn't it? Mainstream does not allow lending on their ebooks(not referring to public libraries) so should we as indie authors?
