stupid question that has me stuck in a story...

how do you describe someone who goes from being on the hands and knees leaning over someone to when they pull back to just being on their knees and their butt is actually on their feet? It's not really kneeling or "sitting on your knees"....help! need it for a story I'm writing.

I pulled back and pressed my knees into the ground and sat on my heels.

It's kind of crouching. That's what I'd put

well i didn't want the character propped up because he was kneeling on a bed and crouching makes me think he could fall over to easily. Thanks all for your responses. You got me unstuck. :)
