Good point Laura! The mystery of how Rachel disappeared wouldn't be possible. Today, I would imagine security cameras in such a facility would be everywhere. The first thing that the Marshals would want to see is security footage.
After reading about what was happening in 1954, I'd love to hear from Lehane where he got the idea for the novel. I really enjoy hearing authors describe where the concept or seed of inspiration came from. I'll bet this novel has a wonderful story.

It gives me shivers to think of Lehane as a boy wandering around a deserted mental facility. Kind of like an episode of one of those ghost hunter shows.

I could not put this book down! As soon as I finished it, I had to pass it on to my mom, aunt, sister, and uncles. The twist at the end was excellent!
