Amy, it should appear right away. maybe you put it in a different topic than you thought. Have you tried searching for it using the "search discussion posts" field on the right?

I think I did it through my bookshelves. Maybe I should just post it on the JF board. One of these days, I'll get the hang of Goodreads. LOL

If you post on the message board in any thread, it shows up immediately.

You wondered when your book review / comment for Don't Tell a Soul would show up here - and as you suspected, it was originally under 'your books' area rather than here on one of the M/T Reading Friends group topics. You have the option to do comments both places, and your friends will see your book reviews and status updates as well as group posts. Once you get the hang of it I think you'll find the wealth of information and connectivity here amazing! I found your comment easily by clicking on your Name and linked to your pages. Ask anytime you have questions!

Cheryl and others, you're all right that reviews written on your bookshelves don't show up here, so that's the explanation for what happened with Amy.
However I've had the experience of having a couple of my posts lost in limbo for a few hours before showing up. This is probably an individual browser issue as I've also had the experience of seeing replies to something someone has posted before the actual post shows up for me. For instance, Carol posts about Topic A, but I don't see it. I'll see replies quoting Carol on Topic A, but the original post sometimes doesn't show up until the next day. So far, they always DO show up eventually.

It probably takes the browser that long to stop laughing.

The browser has been laughing for years at my limited computer skills, not to mention the typing.

I've had this happen a few times. Sometimes I think it has something to do with the thread going to a second or third page. For some reason posts don't always appear at the end of the thread when there's a page extension.
Also, when posting late one night I sent a post just as Goodreads shut down without warning for maintenance. That post was lost forever.
Still, I was the victim of a lot of temporarily MIA or never-seen posts on AOL. Goodreads has never reached the level where I see responses to posts that never showed up or where I'm unsure if something I've posted will ever be seen.

I have seen that too, earlier tonight actually! Also I might leave a Goodreads browser window open for a while and posts to the group during that time may not register as new.

Oh yeah, I've had that happen too, Ann. It's odd that some of the glitches seem to happen inconsistently so that it's hard to get used to them. I also have the problem of using two different browsers to access Goodreads and they each provide a slightly different experience and slightly different glitches.

Ann, does this happen even if you "refresh" your screen? (new posts don't show as new)

Good question. I think the posts I referred to did show up as new but I missed them because I didn't go back to the window (or refresh an open browser window) before signing off; and the next time I logged on they weren't 'new'. I will experiment some more. I really like the Goodreads email notices, they help me see things I might miss like comments directly on books, so I do check those to help me keep up with the group too. Checking my home page for friends activity is great too.
