Lee Thought it might be fun to start posting "new" words that we come across in our reading:

Numinous - prayerful

Complect - to weave or entwine together

Both discovered in Swamplandia!

Lee I think Mr Pynchon may have made up some of them himself

Maureen | 41 comments Yes, Pynchon has got a vocabulary all of his own!

Hilary | 2082 comments The most annoying thing for me is that his made up word is either very close to the "proper" word or from its context you can understand what it means. I can't decide whether he is just trying to prove how clever and imaginative HE is or encouraging us to develop our own perception of language. Either way, I'd prefer him not to! But I also smiled at "suture self".

Lee I may be wrong, but I'm getting the impression that you're not the biggest Mason & Dixon fan :0)
