Chapter 8 - #7 - I really struggled with this because I truly liked Catelyn, except for her MAJOR flaw in not liking Jon Snow.

About Rhaeger's acts revealed in Ch. 12-15:"
Very true, Teresa. That conversation was very telling.

For number 1- I hadn't thought of Jon being someone else's son! (Speculative spoiler, I haven't read ahead, lol!---->) (view spoiler)

Wow. That's a very interesting speculation! It would actually be pretty cool if that turned out to be true :D.

@Sarah- Very true, we only have Robert's side so far that she was raped. Ned didn't say one way or another...

Questions for Chapter 16 (Eddard) - Chapter 19 (Jon)
(view spoiler)

Personally, this schedule is working for me. There is enough breathing room for the days I can't read.

Thanks Teresa. I just figured I'd check. I'm happy to read other things along with GoT. I'm being careful to pick wildly different sorts of books so I don't bungle them up in my head.

I can't imagine reading a similar book at the same time, with this cast of characters and events. My brain would likely just quit! I am reading Neverwhere for the Gaiman challenge later this month and figure that is safe as well.

I'm good with either :). I am trying to keep myself slower at this point, but I don't mind it. Gives me lots of time to speculate, lol!

God - I really wish he would get to writing the rest of the books.

He's too busy with the HBO shows.

No doubt! :) I'm just working off the questions, but I'm under no illusions that I can guess correctly, lol. I usually plow through a book without stopping (this is my first buddy read), so having the slower pace is interesting.

5. What do you think about the young boys called "Rapers" being taken to the Wall? Does it shock you?
The Wall has become a place to send the criminals, outcasts and other less desirables. It no longer carries with it the noble status it once did. I guess it's a way to rid the general society of these people while keeping them useful. A historical equivalent of having prisoners work to make masses of goods, I suppose.
6. Does this sentence say anything important about the Lannisters? "The Lannisters took what was offered" (120). Think about it in reference to what Ned said about Jaime sitting on the throne. Does it change anything about Jaime Lannister?
The Lannisters ALWAYS take, and not always what is offered. This sentence does not change my opinion, just reinforces it.
7. What do you think of the bond between Jon and Tyrion?
I LOVE it. Two of my favourite characters. People who are ultimately good at heart - but are not accepted by their families. Family is what seems to define a person so being ostracized is the ultimate punishment. These two, however, remain good...er... so to speak.
10. Even after 15 years Catelyn does not consider herself to be a Stark. She tells Robb to stay at Winterfell because "there must always be a Stark at Winterfell" (137). Why do you think Catelyn chooses to exclude herself from being a Stark?
Poor old Catelyn. She is a mother (of her own kids) first and foremost and, although she seems a bit brutal, it's not hard to see where she's coming from. Her husband cheated. She can't just leave him. And, her husband is a good man, for the most part. She struggles with being a good wife to a man who may not always deserve it. I really feel for her. And she's nursing a dying child - her ferociousness and motherly instinct couldn't have been any more clear than in the scene where the library fire blazed.
