I've read this before but wanted to read it again before continuing on with the rest.

Prologue through Chapter 3(Daenerys)

1. Many fantasy stories have a "medieval" feel. They incorporate elements that seem or are very fitting to the medieval time period. Why do you think authors do this?

Alot of fantasy is set in the past where you see less technology and magic to compensate as compared to Science fiction, which is often set in the future with more technological advances.

2. Tolkien was asked many times how WWII affected his writing of The Lord of the Rings. Was it allegorical? Tolkien always insisted that it wasn't. That being said, does Martin "mean" anything by setting the North vs. the South? Those things obviously "mean" something to us- the Civil War, North and South Korea, Vikings, etc.

I don't think this is really about north vs south. There seems to be a magical threat from north of the wall. There has also been mentioned previous wars that were invasions from across the water, east vs west, north vs south and all the little petty ones between neighbours.

3. For some reason, many epics start with an execution (or perhaps a death/murder). What is the author's purpose in doing that?

With a book this thick, you need something exciting up front to get you interested. It also shows the way of life for the Starks and drew comparisons to how other houses handle execution.

4. Does the direwolf, and her pups, appearance foreshadow anything? What do you make of the pups numbering the exact amount of Stark children?

The direwolf mother was found dead with a stag antler driven into her throat. Catelin seemed disturbed by this and worried it was a bad omen - her husbands sigil is the direwolf and the kings is the stag. The wolf pups seem destined to be for the Stark children, especially since there was an extra one for Jon ( an albino that usually gets rejected from the litter for the bastard who is usually rejected from the trueborn family) - Lots of symbolism in this scene.

5. The orphan is a powerful literary symbol. Especially historically where one's birth determined career, marriage, etc. Orphans are free to, sort of, create their own destiny. What, if anything, will Dany (Daenerys) choose to do to break with her "destiny"?

Dany doesn't seem to have much power to do anything at this point. She is being sold by her brother to help him achieve what he thinks his destiny should be.

@Kimberly I have the same problems as you are. I've watched the first few episodes of the show and they all are so much younger in the book.

This first section is a bit slow and feels more like setting the scene. As I'm reading the Dutch translation, it's a fast read so far and I'm not having to much trouble getting into the story. I do hope there is going to be more action. Will continue Thursday with the second section.

I think this is because it's easier to imagine how things look and feel. We all have a general idea about how clothes and houses looked like in medieval times. It also leaves room for your own imagination.

That being said, does Martin "mean" anything by setting the North vs. the South? Those things obviously "mean" something to us- the Civil War, North and South Korea, Vikings, etc.
I don't think there is a reference to historical wars. I think people would like to read more into these kind of stories.

3. For some reason, many epics start with an execution (or perhaps a death/murder). What is the author's purpose in doing that?
It's a good tool to set the scene for books. It shows how brutal the time and environment is.

4. Does the direwolf, and her pups, appearance foreshadow anything? What do you make of the pups numbering the exact amount of Stark children?
I'm sure it does, I don't know how it will play out it's to soon to tell. The number of pubs and the gender is exact and impossible to be coincidental.

5. The orphan is a powerful literary symbol. Especially historically where one's birth determined career, marriage, etc. Orphans are free to, sort of, create their own destiny. What, if anything, will Dany (Daenerys) choose to do to break with her "destiny"?
I don't think she has much choice at the moment, her brother owns her and he makes the choices for her and they don't promise good things in her future.

1. We now know what was so significant about how the direwolf was killed. The fact the antler was the means of death suggests the King, whose symbol is an antler, must somehow cause the death of Eddard (aka Ned) leaving his children orphans. The question is should this be seen as a warning as to what could happen or a prophecy of what is to come? What do you think? Knowing what could happen can the outcome be changed?
I think it's a prophecy of about what is to come and I don't think a lot can be changed about the outcome.

2. Knowing how close the King and Ned were do you think Catelyn was right to encourage her husband to become the King's Hand?
I don't think she was right to encourage him, I can understand why she would because Ned's actions will influence her childrens future.

3. Do you think Jon Snow's jealousy of his siblings tureborn siblings will cause trouble in the future?
I don't think he feels jealous, he seems to love his siblings. It's more that he doesn't feel accepted by the people around them and he feels he is alone.

4. Were you surprised that Catelyn would ask that Jon either go with her husband or become one of the brother's of the Night's Watch?
I wasn't surprised he's not her son and she feels he threatens her childrens position and maybe she feels Ned loves Jon more than his other children.

5. Wall are usually put up for a reason. Any ideas as to why the Wall was put up thousands of years ago? Do you suspect it had something to do with the Others? What do you the the Others are?
I think it was to protect them from the Others, which I think are some sort of spirit.

6. What do you think of Tyrion's advice to Jon? "Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you."
I like this advice, it flips things around and makes it the problem for the people who judge Jon.

7. What character(s) do you find the most interesting so far?
I find Jon and Ned most interesting.

8. Thoughts on why the Lannisters would want to get rid of Jon Arryn and then foster his son?
Influence on the king and maybe getting rid of the competition.

9. Sounds like Rhaegor did something to Ned's sister. Any thoughts on what that was?
I think he poisoned her.

I think it's definitely foreshadowing... but I don't think anything can be done, as the events are already set in motion when the book starts.

I think she made valid points to justify why he NEEDED to do it. It's a shame, knowing what the wolf symbols indicated, that it had to happen though.

There's definitely potential for that. I think he loves his siblings more than he is jealous of them. I think the biggest problem is that he wants to be accepted and knows he can't be by society's standards.

I am, honestly. I understand where she's coming from, but he's very young, and she should be a little more understanding of him... HE didn't do anything to her. Her husband and the boy's mother did it. Don't punish him for their transgressions, regardless of how it makes you feel. The boy needs a home and love.

5. Walls are usually put up for a reason. Any ideas as to why the Wall was put up thousands of years ago? Do you suspect it had something to do with the Others? What do you the the Others are?
No clue what the Others are... and I think it might have something to do with them. But NO IDEA!

I have to say, many of the characters didn't make such a bold first impression as Tyrion did. I think it's strong advice.

1) Before you found out what happened, were you apprehensive about Bran climbing all over Winterfall, especially when you discovered he was crawling the outer walls fraught with loose mortar? Did his direwolf cub’s growl cause you to have a sense of impending doom?
I knew when he started climbing and acting invincible that he wouldn't be... and when he heard the Lannisters talking, I knew he was about to GET IT!

2) Did it take you long to figure out who the man and woman were whom Bran overheard? Did you surmise both their identities at the same time, or just one?
I guessed both of them correctly. Though the sex (or "wrestling") was unexpected... but they had hinted at brother/sister relationships multiple times throughout the book so far. I think that relationship will play a key role as the book progresses. Those two are deceitful snakes! :P

3) We learn from their dialogue that these two wished the King ill; did you think eavesdropping was an effective way to learn this? “That frighten cow shared Jon Arryn’s bed.” What do you deduce from this statement?
I think it was a great way for Martin to reveal it to us, the audience, as well as provide story tension through Bran's injury/recovery. Will he remember? I hope so!

That statement indicates that the Lannisters are in this for power, and nothing more. Not love, not respect, not self-preservation... POWER. They hate everyone standing in their way.

4) Since Bran is a POV character in this story, it would be surprising if he died so early in the story; therefore, what condition do you think he will be in after the push? (Any comments about the push?)
I think he will recover, but it will take time, and who knows if his memory will return. He won't be the same -- probably unable to walk. The push didn't surprise me. It may have surprised Bran, but he was too young to truly understand the implications of the Lannisters' behavior.

5) Were you surprised Tyrion slapped Prince Joffrey not once, but twice? What do you think his reasons were for emphatically insisting Prince Joffrey put aside his contemptuous attitude and seek out Lord and Lady Stark?

I really like Tyrion. And I hate the "little shit" Prince Joffrey, who certainly is showing his true Lannister nature. What a worm!

As for his pushing Joffrey to do the right thing, well, I think he's looking out for the little prince, even if he doesn't like his behavior, he loves him as family and doesn't want harm to come to him or for his childishness and lack of understanding the repurcussions to bite him in the butt later.

6) How much do you think Tyrion knows about the secrets of Queen Cersei and her twin, Ser Jaime, the Kingslayer?
I think he knows all of them... from Joffrey's description, I'd be surprised if Joffrey wasn't really Jaime's son with his sister (*gack*)

7) How did you feel about Jon Snow defying Catelyn in order to say good-bye to Bran? Why do you think she told him about her prayers?
I think he did the right thing. I really don't like Catelyn's attitude towards him. As said in previous Questions, I feel like she can dislike him for what he represents, but she doesn't have to be a vicious and cruel bitch about it. And she chooses to be so, every single time. She brought it up because she needed to get it out... she is hurting and worried, and would rather wound someone she doesn't like so they are suffering with her than suffer alone.

8) Forget Viserus’ brooding boorishness at the wedding; to me, Magister Illyrio seems overly invested in Daenerys’ behavior. Are his reasons of a pedantic, prurient, or purely solicitous nature?
He is going to get something out of it for sure, beyond the money/payment he already has. Viserys is an annoying little brat, but I think he's underestimated the strength that his sister will find within herself -- and the amount of loyalty he's actually going to receive from the Kahl and Illyrio.

9) Are the three dragon eggs gifted to Dany by Magister Illyrio still viable? If so, does he know this? Are his actions and gift-giving consistent with his moral nature and personality?
I have to say yes... but only because I've seen commercials/info from the show that calls Daenerys the queen of dragons, and I'm sure that would include ACTUAL dragons.

Illyrio has his motives -- and I'm sure they're mostly for personal gain.

10) Looks like Khal Drago can only communicate to Daenerys with one word, but he uses it effectively, no? Comments.
He definitely wins her over, even with that one word. I didn't dislike him as much as I thought I would. And I like the strength that Daenerys is finding within herself. I'm interested in seeing where her story takes her. (hide spoiler)]

Personally, I think it's just a fun time period and one that we really romanticize. It's a time of chivalry, golden knights, and fair lords and ladies, as well as their darker opposites. It plays well with the good vs. evil theme. In this series it looks like those lines will be blurred on who is actually good and who isn't, but it keeps you guessing so I like it so far.

That being said, does Martin "mean" anything by setting the North vs. the South? Those things obviously "mean" something to us- the Civil War, North and South Korea, Vikings, etc. I looked at the map in the front of my book and it looks like it's based off of the UK to me. So the north/south thing reminds me of the ancient divisions of England, with the wall being similar to the ancient Roman wall you see in some Arthur stories.

It's definitely a sign, you can see that by the way the characters react. What exactly it means, I'm not sure, but these are definitely a people who tend to believe in signs so it's probably significant. It's possible that since direwolves hadn't been seen in so long that it's a sign of the emergence of the house of Stark (a house that seems to have long been in the shadows) into a more prominent position, most likely through the moves of each of the children.

3. Do you think Jon Snow's jealousy of his siblings tureborn siblings will cause trouble in the future? I actually didn't feel like he had any hard feelings toward his siblings themselves. More that he was upset with the way his elders (probably especially Catelyn) treated him.

4. Were you surprised that Catelyn would ask that Jon either go with her husband or become one of the brother's of the Night's Watch? Yes, I liked her up until she showed this side of her. I felt it was very petty to hold this against Jon.

5. Wall are usually put up for a reason. Any ideas as to why the Wall was put up thousands of years ago? Do you suspect it had something to do with the Others? What do you the the Others are? Not sure, they keep referencing the Others as well as the fact that the Starks have the blood of the First Men in them. My guess would be the wall has something to do with that, but I'm not sure what exactly. The others are obviously some sort of ice beings, we see that in the prologue. Ice zombies? :)

6. What do you think of Tyrion's advice to Jon? "Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you." I thought it was great and an unexpected help. I really like Jon so far, so I'm hoping he takes it to heart.

7. What character(s) do you find the most interesting so far? Definitely Jon, but I also would really like to see more of Anya.

8. Thoughts on why the Lannisters would want to get rid of Jon Arryn and then foster his son? I'm guessing he was a treat of some sort to them and they hope to indoctrinate his son by fostering him now that his father is out of the way.

9. Sounds like Rhaegor did something to Ned's sister. Any thoughts on what that was? not sure... there seems to be hints in the passage (her room smelled of blood and roses, she had a fever, Robert says a thousand deaths would still be less than he deserved). It must have been pretty bad for the people of this type of society to be that upset about it, even when it's someone they love. (hide spoiler)]

This is a reread for me, so I find myself taking note of things I didn't focus on in my first read. for example, there's a tension between the noble born members of the Night Watch and the "small folk" members that's highlighted here. That class conflict will return many times in different parts of Westeros.

Then there's the fact that so many people make light of, or completely ignore, the threat posed by the White Walkers. This is one of those things that makes me want to throttle certain characters. If the threat isn't immediately visible, these characters do tend to dismiss it.

I am nearly done with Chapter 6 and really enjoying it so far. I have watched the first episode of the TV series (quite some time ago), and I think that is helping me keep track of the characters. I think the introduction of each character to this point has been well crafted to give you some insight into their nature and left me with a first impression of each character. I assume they will get more complicated from here, but I am interested to see if this first glimpse of the characters will ring true as the story progresses.

Prologue through Chapter 3(Daenerys)

I agree that the lack of technology is helpful for this genre. It also presents an intersting mix of familiar and unfamiliar. There is no need to create an entirely new world for the reader, but there will not be jarring discontinuities where the reader is trying to fit the fantasy elements into the world around them.

3. For some reason, many epics start with an execution (or perhaps a death/murder). What is the author's purpose in doing that?
I think this lends gravity to the story by signaling that there will be life and death implications to the actions and events to follow. It is interesting here that the introduction of all three story lines so far all begin on a very difficult note.

4. Does the direwolf, and her pups, appearance foreshadow anything? What do you make of the pups numbering the exact amount of Stark children?
Definitely red flags went up in my mind when I read this part. I hope the foreshadowing is not too literally, or Catelyn is in trouble. In the context of the other introductions in this book, it seems like the Starks have some tie to the world beyond the wall. Benjen Stark is in the Night Watch. There is the execution of the deserter that was ranging. And then they find the direwolf, also a creature from beyond the wall, and adopt the pups. It will be fun to watch and see if this tie is just in my head, or plays out.

5. The orphan is a powerful literary symbol. Especially historically where one's birth determined career, marriage, etc. Orphans are free to, sort of, create their own destiny. What, if anything, will Dany (Daenerys) choose to do to break with her "destiny"?
This is an interesting thought on the meaning of an orphan in this context. In some ways, it is already proving true as she is going to wed outside the family, something Martin makes clear is outside what her “destiny” would otherwise be. (hide spoiler)]

If you have it set to "no books read" (so you don't spoil the first) you can still browse characters and it only gives you the most basic description of them.

As long as you don't click on chapter summaries that you haven't read (or change your scope) it is very easy to avoid spoilers.

That is the question, do we have free choice or is our destiny already set.

Not many Kings would take no for an answer anyway. The Kings hand is a very high powered position, so politically a good move for Eddard. A step toward joining their houses by marriage which would provide Catelyn's children with a good future.
3. Do you think Jon Snow's jealousy of his siblings tureborn siblings will cause trouble in the future?
He was brought up with his trueborn siblings, which is more privilege than most bastards would have had. He doesn't seem jealous of his siblings, just knows that they are not equal and that Catelyn hates him.
4. Were you surprised that Catelyn would ask that Jon either go with her husband or become one of the brother's of the Night's Watch?
I didn't think she would be so cold about it, but I can see where she is coming from. Jon isn't her son and she doesn't want him in competition with her children.

Walls are built to keep something in or to keep something out. The night watch seem to be using the wall to keep out raiders, but the wall was built a long time ago, so maybe the real reason has been forgotton.

It can give the reader something to relate to. If it isn't too different from our ancient world, then the reader can easily imagine it. Also, I like to think that a Medieval setting can make us believe, even for a little while, that the magical beings and other things could have happened, only history forgot to mention it :D.

2. Tolkien was asked many times how WWII affected his writing of The Lord of the Rings. Was it allegorical? Tolkien always insisted that it wasn't. That being said, does Martin "mean" anything by setting the North vs. the South? Those things obviously "mean" something to us- the Civil War, North and South Korea, Vikings, etc.
I'm not sure...it never even occurred to me.

Executions/murders start things off because there will always be someone who is angry and wishes to either get revenge or uncover the secret.

No. Not surprised, just disappointed. I can't like someone who is cruel to a child (young man) because of the infidelity of the parent. It is a horrible thing to do.

Probably to keep something contained. The others are pretty scary. I have no idea what they are, except that they are bad news.

I wasn't originally worried and thought he might use this talent to his advantage throughout the book. The direwolf growl made me think the wolf was concerned. I was very surprised when it happened.

2) Did it take you long to figure out who the man and woman were whom Bran overheard? Did you surmise both their identities at the same time, or just one?
I cant remember my first impressions of this bit, but I don't think I saw this coming either.

3) We learn from their dialogue that these two wished the King ill; did you think eavesdropping was an effective way to learn this? “That frighten cow shared Jon Arryn’s bed.” What do you deduce from this statement?
Eavesdropping means we don't know the whole story. I assume the frightened cow is Jon Arryns wife, who suspected his death was murder and has run away from court, with her son to the safety of her home.

4) Since Bran is a POV character in this story, it would be surprising if he died so early in the story; therefore, what condition do you think he will be in after the push? (Any comments about the push?)
The push was so flippant and happened so fast it caught me by surprise. A fall from that height would be sure to break bones.

5) Were you surprised Tyrion slapped Prince Joffrey not once, but twice? What do you think his reasons were for emphatically insisting Prince Joffrey put aside his contemptuous attitude and seek out Lord and Lady Stark?
Because he is a spoilt little brat and needs to be put in his place.

6) How much do you think Tyrion knows about the secrets of Queen Cersei and her twin, Ser Jaime, the Kingslayer?
I think he knows more than he lets on, and files away information to use to his own advantage when it suits him.

7) How did you feel about Jon Snow defying Catelyn in order to say good-bye to Bran? Why do you think she told him about her prayers?
I'm glad he stood up to her. She is grieving, but so is Jon. I think she felt guilty, that somehow her prayers had been answered, but not how she meant. Be careful what you wish for...

8) Forget Viserus’ brooding boorishness at the wedding; to me, Magister Illyrio seems overly invested in Daenerys’ behavior. Are his reasons of a pedantic, prurient, or purely solicitous nature?
Everyone is looking out for their own interests. Most likely due to whatever deals and arrangements have been made in exchange for Dany, if the wedding doesn't go ahead, the deals will fall through.

9) Are the three dragon eggs gifted to Dany by Magister Illyrio still viable? If so, does he know this? Are his actions and gift-giving consistent with his moral nature and personality?
Not sure at this point.

10) Looks like Khal Drago can only communicate to Daenerys with one word, but he uses it effectively, no? Comments.

I wonder if the King’s house – meaning the queen – will be the one that brings him down. I mostly just don’t want the two to turn against each other. Silly given the reputation of this series, right?

I think that she properly read the King’s visit as a signal that Ned must agree to the post. If the King was merely offering an honor or hoping for Ned’s consent, he would have made the offer privately. I think it is always a bad idea in negotiations to ask for something in such a way as to invite the other side to answer the wrong way. So, perhaps I am projecting.

3. Do you think Jon Snow's jealousy of his trueborn siblings will cause trouble in the future?
I had not read his reactions as jealous of his siblings so much as mindful (and at times resentful) of the difference in how others perceive him. So far he has shown genuine affection for the siblings. And his interest in the Night Watch could be his attempt to affect how he is perceived.

4. Were you surprised that Catelyn would ask that Jon either go with her husband or become one of the brother's of the Night's Watch?
Her harsh response seemed out of character for her as we see her until then as a loving wife and mother. Her reaction seems equally driven by the fact that Jon is a reminder of the one flaw in her marriage and Jon’s potential threat to her children. This, paired with her reaction to Ned’s resistance to serving as the Hand, shows that Catelyn is somewhat savvy in politics.

5. Wall are usually put up for a reason. Any ideas as to why the Wall was put up thousands of years ago? Do you suspect it had something to do with the Others? What do you the the Others are?
I was assuming that the wall was intended to keep out the Others and the other untamed entities in the story. It seems to be a demarcation between the civilized and uncivilized worlds. I don’t know what the Others are, and am not sure I would want to.

Seems like sage advise. I wonder if Tyrion has successfully followed his own advise.

Tyrion is probably the most interesting to me so far. He is in a very interesting position. He is the only character that so far has spoken freely to all. It may come from his position as an outside in his family and society, paired with the power of his family, which protects him from the harsher treatment that Jon sometimes suffers. It is interesting that people who are listing Tyrion here are also listing Jon. They have a similar position in the world and perhaps that is lending a complexity early in the story.

8. Thoughts on why the Lannisters would want to get rid of Jon Arryn and then foster his son?
I agree with the others that they killed Jon because he was a threat to them and foster his son to maintain control over him. My first impression of this family is that they are very politically invested, and that all moves relate to that rather than any personal feelings. If this is the only son, they could also potentially control his entire house through him.

1. We've had a lot of speculation about Jon's parentage. Robert was with Ned the year he was away and mentions Wylla - Jon's mother. What do you think of this new development? If Wylla is Jon's mother then who was Ashara to Ned? Could it be that he had more than one affair?
Hmmm, that I'm not sure about. Maybe Wylla is what he TOLD Robert and Ashara is the real mother? Or maybe they're the same person? Or maybe Ashara is just a rumor???

2. We finally find out that Rhaegar did rape Lyanna. Does this change anything for you?
Nope. Already assumed this is what had happened.

3. Ned advises Robert that "no one man should hold both the East and West". Do you think this could be foreshadowing something? Or is it just advice?
Well, I think we all see what's coming -- Robert is trusting the wrong people, and it is going to come back to bite him.

4. Does it surprise you to find out how Jaime Lannister got his nickname of Kingslayer? Also, what about Ned finding Jaime sitting on the Iron Throne?
Not even in the slightest. Jaime craves power, and this was not just done in jest.

5. What do you think about the young boys called "Rapers" being taken to the Wall? Does it shock you?
A little, but not as much as I would think it would. Those men don't get to produce children, and no women live at the wall that we know of... so I guess they've found their way of... relieving certain tensions?

6. Does this sentence say anything important about the Lannisters? "The Lannisters took what was offered" (120). Think about it in reference to what Ned said about Jaime sitting on the throne. Does it change anything about Jaime Lannister?
The Lannisters are playing the game well.

7. What do you think of the bond between Jon and Tyrion?
I like their chapters, as I find their bond and their characters intriguing. They both feel like outcasts or unwanted, looking for bigger purpose.

8. Who do you think the man was, who was sent to Bran's room? Who do you think sent him? Why?
The Lannisters sent him to kill Bran so he wouldn't talk. As for who he was, well, I dunno. Guess we'll figure that out, unless he was just a peon paid to kill Bran who doesn't have a role in the story beyond that.

9. Many have shown dislike for Theon Grayjoy, how do you feel about him being allowed to hear what Catelyn has to say about the Lannisters?
I don't like or dislike him yet. Don't know anything about him. I don't know if Catelyn should have trusted him, as the Lannisters are wily and could have anyone on their side, but honestly, I don't like Catelyn and don't care if bad things happen to her -- as long as Robb and Bran and their wolves are okay, I'm good.

10. Even after 15 years Catelyn does not consider herself to be a Stark. She tells Robb to stay at Winterfell because "there must always be a Stark at Winterfell" (137). Why do you think Catelyn chooses to exclude herself from being a Stark?
Well, I think she meant that the male heir must be there to rule it, and she would just be a fill-in.

11. Is it significant that the "wilder" children look like Starks and the "tamer" children look like Tullys? Why?
I dunno. I guess we'll see.

12. What do you think about the fight between Arya and Joffrey? What kind of repercussions do you think will follow?
I think it will be bad for Arya AND Sansa, but it made me like Arya even more. And Sansa is rather annoying, really. As is Joffrey, the "little shit." :P (hide spoiler)]

I struggle a bit with some of these questions because I've watched the series so I know what's happening. I knew Bran would be pushed & I knew who would be canoodling through the window. I don't want to spoil whether Bran will recover... I can say (without spoiling anything) that I know it isn't wise to get too attached to anyone - Mr. Martin is ruthless!!

All that being said, I'm surprised how true to the book the series is, so far.

From now on, I'll just skip the questions where I know the answers...

The Lannisters are fabulously wicked and hungry for power. I like how no character is truly faultless - they each have their good sides and bad - but some are clearly worse than others. It's brilliant character development.

5) Were you surprised Tyrion slapped Prince Joffrey not once, but twice? What do you think his reasons were for emphatically insisting Prince Joffrey put aside his contemptuous attitude and seek out Lord and Lady Stark?

Joff needs to be slapped, repeatedly and often. He's a brute.

7) How did you feel about Jon Snow defying Catelyn in order to say good-bye to Bran? Why do you think she told him about her prayers?
I love Jon Snow. He's thoughtful and kind and he knew that Bran needed him, to know that Jon supported him. Their family isn't always easy, to say the least - Jon is the only truly mature one amongst the lot of them.


10) Looks like Khal Drago can only communicate to Daenerys with one word, but he uses it effectively, no? Comments.
I mean.... what a scene! It was tender and romantic. I wish more men only knew one word. (I'm kidding!!) (sort of) (haha)
