I am in - have this series in my library audio book queue and have been meaning to get to it. This is my first buddy read, so I am interested to see how it all works. Anytime in December works for me as well.
End of December, early January sounds better for me - many challenges are wrapping up in December and would love to ensure I have time to read this!
I'm in, any time in December is good for me, I'm only going away for the four days over Christmas so I won't miss too much reading time for that :)
Lisa Kay wrote: "So, should we put this to a vote via a poll? Or just continue to discuss it?"Maybe we should discuss starting a poll? Lol teasing. I say we vote.
Alright, I can set up a poll. How about these options, all starting on Mondays:December 2nd.
December 9th.
December 16th.
December 23rd.
December 30th.
A poll would definitely be helpful. I think the amount of dates is just right. That way there is a wider range of dates to choose from. Great idea, Lisa Kay :).
It will take a few days to get out to everyone. We have a limit on the number we can mail a day, and we just did the regular polls.
So far we have a three-way tie for the dates. As we get nearer the end of the voting period, and if this continues, I'll let you know so those who voted for the less popular dates can change their votes. (Instead of doing the poll again.)
Is it better for me not to vote, if I don't have a preference? Or should I vote for tie-breaker purposes?
I'm going to join in as well. I'll get the book in anticipation. I've been wanting to read this series and a group read will be great!
I'm looking forward to it!

i'd like to join. I tried reading thia last year and failed. I really like danayras so I just ended up reading her chapters lol
Sandra wrote: "What is the start date? I want to join in. We'll read each book over a 2 month period??"Each book has a different number of days for Chapters/DQs. This one is 17 days. We learned before to allow for a break-or-catch-up day every now and then, so you looking at about 20 to 21 days out of the month. Then break for a bit before starting again, but usually the next month.

What about something like this for the schedule? Since this is more relaxed than the original, I merged two days into one but gave us 3 days to read the same amount of chapters. This way the existing discussion questions don't overlap sections, but it leaves the schedule more open for people to be flexible with their reading. Date Chapters
December 2 Prologue - 7 (Arya )
December 5 8 (Bran) - 15 (Tyrion)
December 8 16 (Eddard) - 23 (Daenerys)
December 11 24 (Bran) - 31 (Tyrion)
December 14 32 (Arya) - 39 (Eddard)
December 17 40 (Catelyn) - 47(Eddard)
December 20 48 (Jon) - 55 (Catelyn)
December 23 56 (Tyrion) - 63 (Catelyn)
December 26 64 (Daenerys) - 72 (Danerys)

I don't know if this will help at all but based on the length of the audiobook (which is 33 hours and 50 minutes long), I would guess that at best we'd have to commit to reading 3.75 hours every 3 days. I know that I tend to read quite a bit faster than an audiobook, so for print readers, I would venture a guess that this would be an even smaller commitment.I'm so excited to read this together!!
I'm just trying to figure out now if I have time to squeeze in another book before the 2nd... : )
Will we be continuing with the rest of the series? I read GOT earlier this year but would be interested in reading the rest of the series
Erin wrote: "Will we be continuing with the rest of the series? I read GOT earlier this year but would be interested in reading the rest of the series"Nevermind I found the series read discussion silly me :)
I assume we are reading the prologue through chapter 7 starting on the 2nd of December so that we finish the book on the 29th of December.I don't want to be behind everyone though - is that the way we do it?
For everyone asking about the schedule, the intent is to begin reading on December 2nd with discussion for the first section taking place from the 2nd-4th. I am sure many people will be reading faster or slower than the schedule and that is fine too!I updated my schedule to include the character name for that chapter, since they aren't traditionally numbered. There is a list in this post of the chapter and their page numbers that will be helpful, the pages match my mass market paperback version, so you may have to adjust for hardcovers and trades, but it will at least give everyone a starting point. Would one of the mods be so kind as to copy the list to the beginning of this thread somewhere so it's easier to access?
I will probably be keeping up with some of the posts and questions since I have read this book before. I am currently reading A Feast for Crows, but I will probably sneak back to the beginning so I can discuss. I am really looking forward to this!
