Ahhh summer. So wonderful when you are a kid. The memories of staying up late and catching fire flies in the yard. Now I'm not such a huge fan of it. It means more groceries in the house, finding activities for the "i'm bored" days, and mowing the lawn. On the other hand we can go to the zoo during the week and it's not as busy. And lots of trips to the beach. As for fire flies well, they seem to have severely gone down in numbers since I was a kid. And I grew up in MO and now in CA. I haven't seen a fire fly since we moved here. Wish they could have had that. But at least they have the beach.

I second RA's welcome Laura, and welcome to MrsAlvarado as well.
Chiggers will burrow into any "warm" place on your body. You can be walking through ankle-deep grass and a chigger will crawl through your sock and SUCK onto your skin. But uuh they do travel to other locations. So usually if you put powder around your ankles, you're fairly safe from them crawling higher.I was a camp counselor in the thick of chigger area and never caught one. But I *did* get a really nasty spider bite that swelled so bad on my ankle. Originally we thought it was a fire ant bite.
