Would anyone like to join me in reading ...?
What ever happened with the readalong for The Mist in the Mirror? Is there a thread for it? I did end up reading it after all. :)
I've set a Thread for Brideshead Revisited: The Sacred and Profane Memories of Captain Charles Ryder, if someone is interested
Chuck wrote: "Would anyone be interested in a readalong for City on Fire?"Yes! I'm interested, Chuck. When are you thinking of starting?
LauraT wrote: "I've set a Thread for Brideshead Revisited: The Sacred and Profane Memories of Captain Charles Ryder, if someone is interested"I might join little later.

Oh, great! I was thinking about starting on November 1st (gives me a couple days to finish up some Halloween reads I'm doing), but really anytime next month is good for me if anyone needs more time.
But I'm open to anything you all would like to do. We can invent a schedule to read by and discuss, or whatever. Frankly, I'm used to everyone reading and discussing at their own pace by using spoiler tags. But again, I'm open to anything. :)

Great, Nov 1 = perfect for me! I'm going to start as soon as I finish A Little Life this weekend, which I think will be a tough act to follow. But a big chunky novel of New York in the 70s seems just right.
I'll take your lead on whatever readalong format you choose. Diane do you have a preference?
Diane S.✨ wrote: "Can we say start Monday? Have two I would like to finish up. I am okay with using spoiler tags."Yeah, that's fine with me. But with spoiler tags it really isn't going to matter if we start on exactly the same day or what pace we read at. Just as long as we're basically on the same page, proverbially speaking. And it looks like we are. So I'll start a new thread for it.
Can we put what page number we are on when we comment? That's helpful since we are all reading on our own. Thanks for starting the thread, Chuck.

I would be all for that, Diane, except for the fact that I'll be reading the eBook along with the audiobook. But I usually mark my spoilers by chapter. With a book like this I can mark it by Book Number & Chapter. And I could even give an approximate page number based on percentage if you would like. What do you think?
Sounds good, Chuck. Chapters are fine, just so we know not when to look at a spoiler until we at the same place.

I'm glad you'll be joining in for the Faulkner book, Johana.
Thanks Petra! I've wanted to read Ulysses for a long time, but didn't feel ready - or, more than likely, didn't have the nerve for it.... For me, this is the ultimate reading milestone, sort of like climbing Everest... So looking forward to it.!!!Petra wrote: "Johanna, here's the link to the Ulysses thread:

Hi Caecelia!
I would enjoy reading this("Girl Through Glass") with you.I just picked up a copy>Coincidence?
I will be reading Don Quixote in a buddy read in another group. We will be going at a fairly leisurely pace (~100 pages a week) starting mid-March and ending mid-May. Is anyone interested in joining me?
Leslie, as much as I want to join, after recently finishing the 1,200-page War and Peace, I feel I need a break from tomes for a while :)

:-D oh, that sounds great ... thank you for your kind reply.
I am not sure how it works in here, but am I allowed to start a new thread for our Buddy Read? // when would you like to start reading. I have the book on my Kindle Fire & could start at the earliest on Monday next week ...

Monday would be great.I am not certain how this works so any input would be helpful.I am a good reader though:)
Monday is fine for me too. Usually we read at our own pace, comment when we feel like it, but we can be more structured and decide on page numbers read per day. Totally up to the both of you.I am fine with whatever you decide.

I will set up a discussion thread for us :-)

Yes, I am!
We are starting next week Pink. I can set up a readalong thread here or point you to the other group's discussion thread -- which would you prefer?
I don't mind Leslie, but it probably makes sense if I join you in the other thread, otherwise you'll be posting twice. I'm looking forward to this, as it's a book I keep putting off due to the length. Thanks for letting me know :)

Chrissie wrote: "I just want to ask a simple question - has the Trollope read-along fizzled out?"Well, my interest fizzled because all the titles that were being proposed were books I have already read. But I would be interested in reading something I haven't read yet. I am thinking of reading Lady Anna later this month if I can find the time. Would you be interested in reading this?
That one is not available to me, Leslie. I am so sorry. I completely understand that you want to pick one you have not read! Jeez this seems impossible. It said that Trollope himself like this book a lot. Annoying.
I'll join in with anything by Trollope, but if it is a longer book, I'd have to take it much slower, over a month or two. There must be one book that suits everyone, how about a list of possibilities? I just had a quick look and it seems there are about 35 independent novels, though I'd have no idea where to start. Chrissie, which ones are accessible to you and Leslie, which possibilities are you considering?
Leslie, you have read several, so please come up with a few more and I will check them out. Pink you set a limit on how many pages it should have. I love the idea of reading with both of you. I am going to try something. Here is the link of the Trollope available to me: http://www.audible.com/search?ie=UTF8.... I only took the ones that were unabridged. Leslie, you could look through and eliminate the ones in series and the ones you have read and the ones that are too long for Pink and the ones that yo have already read????? OR, you give me a list of ones YOU want to read and I will check to see which are available to me. It has to be possible to find one that fit us three. I would kind of like to have one read by either Simon Vance or Timothy West though......... I would kind of like to have a relatively good narrator......... I know we can find something.

It's in public domain Chrissie: you can download it from Gutenberg

I had indeed Gill. I'm so sorry.
Anyway my answer still can still be right: it can be downloaded from librivox, as almost all Trollope's works

How about Sir Harry Hotspur Of Humblethwaite which is one Chrissie's Audible list:
http://www.audible.com/pd/Classics/Si...
and also
http://www.audible.com/pd/Classics/Si...
and appears to be one of the shorter books. The Kindle book is available for free:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0082V2A9I
and Amazon is calling it 159 pages. {edited to add} I see that the Penguin paperback is 256 pages and that is probably a more reliable guide but this is still short for Trollope!
Chrissie (& anyone else interested in the audiobook), if you "buy" the free Kindle book then the audiobook is much reduced in price using their Whispersync deal.
I don't know anything about this book so I am not recommending it except for the reasons I have mentioned here.
Another relatively short one is Dr. Wortle's School.
