Is your favourite genre to read the same as you write?

I've made an effort to read widely, but I keep finding myself coming back to Fantasy, as really enjoying it. But, then, Fantasy covers so much when you get down to it. There's Fantasy Romance, Gritty Fantasy, Horrific Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, High and Low, etc, etc... it goes on and on. And that's why I think I'll stick with it - there is so much scope to learn within the genre.
The main difference between what I LOVE to read and what I've written to date is that I love reading dark, but I can't seem to write it. Then again, I didn't realise I'd managed to slip some horror in there until people started mentioning it in reviews... so maybe I can write dark.
Plus, I love popping a little romance in there. So I write more romance than I read, I think.
Urban Fantasy would share some traits with horror, no?

@Deb, I guess it does in a way. The chase, the suspense and there is alot of mental health issues/breakdowns in my first novel. Which I don't often see in Urban Fan when you comepare it to horror. I guess I just like a good mix of everything :3
As my mum said while reading the draft of Fury
"You're rather dark dear, aren't you?"
Making her question her parenting, I is. :x
@Micheal variety is the spice of life ... and reading :D

I have a few other ideas I've toyed around with for writing generic fiction, but they're rather dark and serious. A part of me is secretly afraid of going down that path. It's like there's a dark part of my soul I don't want to know...

While I enjoy reading books in these genres, I tend to read more medieval fantasy.
To answer the question more specifically; I really don't consider any of the mentioned genres 'my favorite'. As long as I'm spending time in one or the other, I'm good as gold.

But I read mostly horror, Koontz, King, He..."
My main genres are sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, and my audiences are either YA or adult. I'd like to follow the STephen King formula and branch out to as many as I can.
@R I like that :]
@David I think its a great idea, I do to. My next novel is going to be a scifi/horror and something I didn't think I would attempt to write. But you never know when inspiration hits :3

But I read mostly horror, Koontz, King, Herbet are some of my favourite authors. And my favourite books of theirs are always the less fantasy and more human, psychological ones.
I've never written horror. And I don't know why I don't think of anything Urban Fantasy when I think of my favourite books?
Am I alone?
