I really enjoyed this book."

There's a new book out called "Shelf Discovery" that is all about teenage reads, mostly those from the 1970's. In it, she called this book the worst book ever written. In caps. I loved this book when I read it as a teenager and to this day will cite it as one of my all-time favs simply because of how much it affected me when I read it. I don't care if it's all made up; I don't care if some of it seems unbelievable. I won't say it scared me straight but it definitely had more influence on me being careful never to cross certain lines than my parents did.

Holli Oh good...I can't wait to read it :)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 18. True Believer by Nicholas Sparks True Believer

Average story. I enjoyed it but not one of his bests. I did enjoy the characters and am starting his follow-up At First Sight.

message 54: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) That's exactly how I felt about this book. Same with At First Sight. Good, but not his best.

message 55: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Yeah, it seems like it's a combination of older books of his. Or it's just the same old love story....with different characters.

Mandy (mettakaruna) 19. At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks At First Sight

Better than the first book but kind of boring until the ending.

Mandy (mettakaruna) 20. The Beach House by Jane Green The Beach House

Typical Chick-Lit. Everyone is divorced, having an affair or going through some earth shattering problem. They all meet in Nantucket at the Windermere house. They become family and live happily ever after.

Mandy (mettakaruna) Lisa ~ I actually related a lot to Go Ask Alice. I wish I read that book before I went through my teenage years. I might not have "partied" as hard as I did. Oh and I believe all of the content could have happened to one person. It doesn't seem off the wall at all.

Mandy (mettakaruna) 21. Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea

I seriously almost peed my pants. She is hysterical. I think I have a girl crush.

I really want to read one of her books. I bet I would enjoy her humor. I crack up watching her show.

Cyndi (chill77) Brandie, when I get My Horizontal Life back, I will send it to you. That one is really good.

Awesome! Thank you!!

message 63: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Cyndi and Brandie ~ I can't wait to get that one. She has a new one coming out too. Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.

Mandy (mettakaruna) 22. Between Sisters by Kristin Hannah Between Sisters

Kristin Hannah never seems to fail me. Such a good book and emotional read. I cried right through the last 4 or 5 chapters.

message 65: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments This sounds good too!

message 66: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Very good...very emotional. My sister and I haven't been close the past few years so this book triggered a lot of emotions for me.

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* Oh I liked Between Sisters too! It was such a sweet book. I'm reading Mystic lake now.

message 68: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) How is it Shelby?

Shelby *trains flying monkeys* So far pretty good. I like all her books. I know Holli loved it. The main character so far is very likable and about my age so I'm relating to her.

message 70: by Holli (new)

Holli Loved that book, you are so right Shelby!!! :)

message 71: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments Mandy Sue, You should try The Geometry of Sisters. I just finished and it was good too.

message 72: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Thanks Cindy. Added it to my TBR shelf.

message 73: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 23. Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay Sarah's Key

Very powerful story, though very tragic.

message 74: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Oh, I've been watching your tweets all day about this and I think I'd better make sure I pick it up in the right from of mind---and with a big box of Kleenex!

message 75: by Holli (new)

Holli I've been wanting to read Sarah's Key...... a sad one though huh?

message 76: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Very sad. But, you know what. For the amount of crying I usually do on books this one didn't hit me as hard. I did cry in certain spots but for the most part it just brought tears to my eyes. It has been giving me nightmares though. A lot. Books don't normally do that to me.

message 77: by Holli (new)

Holli Wow! I've really got to read this one now.... sounds like it truly hits home for people.

message 78: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 24. The Bridges of Madison County by Robert James Waller The Bridges of Madison County

This book had so much potential.

message 79: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle I love Kristin Hannah too, I want to read this one as well, her books are usually great.

message 80: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 25. [image error] The Help

I instantly fell in love with the characters. A must read!!

message 81: by Holli (new)

Holli This is now a top fave of mine.... I loved it! Who was your fave character?

message 82: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Holli ~ Definitely Aibileen. But I related to Skeeter the most. One of my favorites this year, too!

message 83: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 26. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger The Time Traveler's Wife

Loved the story but could have done without some of the scenes and language.

message 84: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments Mandy, still have this book on my bookshelf to read! Glad that you enjoyed it though it doesn't sound like it's going to be listed as one of your favorites. I started it once, but don't think I gave it enough of a chance. I was kind of lost trying to figure out what was going on!

message 85: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Cindy ~ It was a great story but I found myself going back and forth a lot with the dates which confused me a bit. After I finally got into it, I enjoyed it but there was some language I could have dealt without and a few scenes I think the author could have skipped all together. One scene at the end was a bit disappointing but all in all a good book. Pick it up, it's worth the read. =)

message 86: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 27. Eating Heaven by Jennie Shortridge Eating Heaven

I had a hard time getting into this one but I think it's because it was so different from The Time Traveler's Wife. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down.

This is a bittersweet story. One that we can all relate too.

message 87: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments I have this one on my TBR list. Glad to see you liked it!

message 88: by Holli (new)

Holli I have that one on my TBR too... I really think the three of us love the same type of books!! ;)

message 89: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) We really do, Holli!!

message 90: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 28. Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult Handle with Care

Very difficult subject matter. I had a hard time digesting the mom in this book but overall liked it.

message 91: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments I don't think I've read any Jodi Picoult either, but from what I understand I think all of her books are based on difficult topics, isn't that right? Glad you liked this one.
OH and send me your address! :)

message 92: by Holli (new)

Holli I really want to read that one Mandy! (Handle With Care)

message 93: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Cindy ~ I sent you my address, you didn't get it? Her books are good, very difficult topics and they all follow the same formula. I like her writing overall though. I have only read three books by her so far but will probably read all of them.

Holli ~ My only complaint is this one is TOO MUCH like My Sister's Keeper. It's almost as if she wrote the same book twice with different diseases. It's a good read but I know you will see the similarities as quickly as I did.

message 94: by Cindy (new)

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments Mandy, I am such a dip-shit sometimes! Yea, I got it with ur great birthday wish!! Thanks for that by the way. OK, now I have ur address...just got to get to the PO with the book!! ha

message 95: by Holli (new)

Holli Oh that's really weird.... now why would she do that?? Seems rather "lazy" huh?

message 96: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) Take your time, Cindy. No need to rush. I will get out Eating Heaven next week. =)

Holli ~ My thoughts exactly!

message 97: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I love Picoult, but I haven't read HWC, now I'm not sure I want to. I did something pretty silly last week. I picked up her 19 Minutes from the library and a week later (before I got around to starting it) I was going through my own books and saw that I already owned it! Good grief! :) Still haven't read it. Have you read that one yet, Mandy?

message 98: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) LOL I have a few books that I own two copies of. Sometimes you forget when it's sitting on that bookshelf for a while. Too funny!! I haven't read it yet but I am looking forward to it. Let me know what you think of it. =)

message 99: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mettakaruna) 29. Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks Nights in Rodanthe

This was the love story that Bridges of Madison County WANTED to be. I loved this story.

Mandy (mettakaruna) 30. Eat, Pray, Love One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert Eat, Pray, Love One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia

I really resonated with this book. I think we have all been on this journey before, even if we never left our own homes.
