Mandy's 2009 Reading Progress

True BelieverAverage story. I enjoyed it but not one of his bests. I did enjoy the characters and am starting his follow-up At First Sight.
Yeah, it seems like it's a combination of older books of his. Or it's just the same old love story....with different characters.

The Beach HouseTypical Chick-Lit. Everyone is divorced, having an affair or going through some earth shattering problem. They all meet in Nantucket at the Windermere house. They become family and live happily ever after.
Lisa ~ I actually related a lot to Go Ask Alice. I wish I read that book before I went through my teenage years. I might not have "partied" as hard as I did. Oh and I believe all of the content could have happened to one person. It doesn't seem off the wall at all.

Are You There Vodka? It's Me, ChelseaI seriously almost peed my pants. She is hysterical. I think I have a girl crush.

I really want to read one of her books. I bet I would enjoy her humor. I crack up watching her show.
Cyndi wrote: "Brandie, when I get My Horizontal Life back, I will send it to you. That one is really good."Awesome! Thank you!!
Cyndi and Brandie ~ I can't wait to get that one. She has a new one coming out too. Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.

Between SistersKristin Hannah never seems to fail me. Such a good book and emotional read. I cried right through the last 4 or 5 chapters.
Very good...very emotional. My sister and I haven't been close the past few years so this book triggered a lot of emotions for me.
So far pretty good. I like all her books. I know Holli loved it. The main character so far is very likable and about my age so I'm relating to her.
Oh, I've been watching your tweets all day about this and I think I'd better make sure I pick it up in the right from of mind---and with a big box of Kleenex!
Very sad. But, you know what. For the amount of crying I usually do on books this one didn't hit me as hard. I did cry in certain spots but for the most part it just brought tears to my eyes. It has been giving me nightmares though. A lot. Books don't normally do that to me.

The Time Traveler's WifeLoved the story but could have done without some of the scenes and language.
Mandy, still have this book on my bookshelf to read! Glad that you enjoyed it though it doesn't sound like it's going to be listed as one of your favorites. I started it once, but don't think I gave it enough of a chance. I was kind of lost trying to figure out what was going on!
Cindy ~ It was a great story but I found myself going back and forth a lot with the dates which confused me a bit. After I finally got into it, I enjoyed it but there was some language I could have dealt without and a few scenes I think the author could have skipped all together. One scene at the end was a bit disappointing but all in all a good book. Pick it up, it's worth the read. =)

Eating HeavenI had a hard time getting into this one but I think it's because it was so different from The Time Traveler's Wife. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down.
This is a bittersweet story. One that we can all relate too.

Handle with CareVery difficult subject matter. I had a hard time digesting the mom in this book but overall liked it.
I don't think I've read any Jodi Picoult either, but from what I understand I think all of her books are based on difficult topics, isn't that right? Glad you liked this one. OH and send me your address! :)
Cindy ~ I sent you my address, you didn't get it? Her books are good, very difficult topics and they all follow the same formula. I like her writing overall though. I have only read three books by her so far but will probably read all of them.Holli ~ My only complaint is this one is TOO MUCH like My Sister's Keeper. It's almost as if she wrote the same book twice with different diseases. It's a good read but I know you will see the similarities as quickly as I did.
Mandy, I am such a dip-shit sometimes! Yea, I got it with ur great birthday wish!! Thanks for that by the way. OK, now I have ur address...just got to get to the PO with the book!! ha
Take your time, Cindy. No need to rush. I will get out Eating Heaven next week. =)Holli ~ My thoughts exactly!
I love Picoult, but I haven't read HWC, now I'm not sure I want to. I did something pretty silly last week. I picked up her 19 Minutes from the library and a week later (before I got around to starting it) I was going through my own books and saw that I already owned it! Good grief! :) Still haven't read it. Have you read that one yet, Mandy?
LOL I have a few books that I own two copies of. Sometimes you forget when it's sitting on that bookshelf for a while. Too funny!! I haven't read it yet but I am looking forward to it. Let me know what you think of it. =)

I really enjoyed this book."
There's a new book out called "Shelf Discovery" that is all about teenage reads, mostly those from the 1970's. In it, she called this book the worst book ever written. In caps. I loved this book when I read it as a teenager and to this day will cite it as one of my all-time favs simply because of how much it affected me when I read it. I don't care if it's all made up; I don't care if some of it seems unbelievable. I won't say it scared me straight but it definitely had more influence on me being careful never to cross certain lines than my parents did.
