Just giving this a shout out, bit premature but I've already had three people discussing Christmas (*hisses*) today....

Give a scary book to someone for Hallowe'en! I will be.

This is awesome! Halloween is by far my favorite time of the year.

Lara, October's Literally Geeky selection is yours to make, so I trust you to pick something spooky.

I've got loads of spooky books that I need to thin out (mostly gothic horrors): if anyone would like an All Hallows Read book from me, then get in touch.

Ahhhheeeeeeeee! So it is! :-D :-D

I'm dressing up for the hangout. That is happening.

I'll start thinking. I don't read very many spooky books.

That's amazing. AMAZING.

As much as I love it, I'm not very good at it. But I'll put a lot of effort in this year.

http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2012/mons... - I made these last year. Plus these...

http://www.confessionsofacookbookquee...

And a severed hand punch.

Ingredients for frozen hand:
1 (10 ounce) package frozen raspberries, thawed
2 1/2 cups cranberry juice
2 envelopes unflavored (veggie) gelatin

Ingredients for punch:
Whatever you like.
I used vodka, ginger beer, appletize, gummy worms and cranberry juice.

Instructions:

Wash and rinse the outside of a rubber glove. Turn glove inside out and set aside. In a 4-cup measuring cup, combine the thawed raspberries and cranberry juice. Pour 2 cups of the raspberry mixture into a small saucepan. Sprinkle the gelatin over and let stand 2 minutes. Warm over low heat, stirring constantly, just until gelatin dissolves. Mix back into the reserved raspberry mixture in the measuring cup.

Pour raspberry mixture into the inverted glove. Gather up the top of the glove and tie securely with kitchen twine. Freeze until solid, or several days if possible.

To serve: Carefully cut glove away from frozen hand. Place frozen hand, palm side up, leaning against side of a large punch bowl. Pour in ginger ale, cranberry juice, vodka, and sparkling cider. Garnish with gummy snakes.

... But watch out when taking the glove off; use a razor to cut around the fingers because it'll be a bloody miracle if you manage to keep all the fingers attached.

Did I mention that I love Hallowe'en?

Thread Necromancy ahoy:

Once again, September 2014 has barely begun, and already I'm seeing mentions of Christmas. Christmas! Pah!

Anyone who wants to participate in an All Hallow's Read Bookswap, give a shout, or a howl, or a waaaaaaaaaaaaail.

I want in.

Who wants a portuguese horror story book?

message 42: by Ez, The God of Catan (new)

Ez (thevapidwench) | 287 comments Mod
Spot of traditional thread necromancy here.

What's an All Hallows Read bookswap you ask? Simple. You send a spooky book out, and get a spooky book back in return - something Hallowe'en appropriate.

I've never had bad year - The Haunting of Hill House (so, so good) , Locke and Key Volume One (highly rated by Aaron), and the super creepy Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (man, the illustrations!!!).

If you're interested in swapping then reply on this thread. By October 1st we'll match you up with a partner.
