The Dead and the Gone (Last Survivors #2) by Susan Beth Pfeffer → Start Date: September 13th, 2013

but book 3 will bring book 1 and book 2 together!
I can't wait!

for some reason (and I could be remembering wrong) I thought her brother was in NYC at school.....

I think this book might blow me mind a little... I can't wait!
do you watch any of the survivor shows or anything? bugging in/bugging out or bunkers or what not?

I used to watch Survivors, but now watch Siberia, Get Out Alive, shows like that. Do you?

I thought it was pretty crazy watching people pretend the world was coming to an end and either bugging in (prepping their house to defend it and keep their food safe) or bugging out (rushing out, most times to an underground bunker). It was pretty crazy....
anyway, it always makes me think of those shows when I read books like this.
I love that her mom was so smart. Getting all that cash and then sending them off into the grocery store to get vitamins, cans of food, warm clothes (even tho it was summer). They did so many things right.
I can't wait to see how the East coast did!
I'm so glad you read this! yay! Thx for buddy reading book 2! I'm excited to get back into the series!
okay, lol, off to go prep the house for tomorrow. hubby is gone for work this week so I'm on my own with the kids and house.... :) I'll be back!

Yes, her mom was so smart. One of my favorite scenes of Book One was when they were in the supermarket parking lot fighting for a shopping cart and could get as much food and medicine as they could fit in there for $50. Her mom was so smart. Just gave all of them envelopes full of money and then had them give all the bags to her so she could put away all of the bags and they could go back for more food. Under all of that stress, she handled it amazingly.
I am glad I read it too, it was actually my summer reading book! You're welcome! Thanks!
Good luck with the kids and the house! :D

it's been a while since I read the first one - but it definitely stuck with me
:)

wow, only 19 chapters. I think this book should be pretty quick
I'll come back every 5 chapters

so I'm 1 & 1/2 chapters in(only about 30 pages) but this one is already really intense
(view spoiler)
I can't wait to read more. I'll read a bunch more tomorrow!

I promise to get to it tomorrow though :)

YES, that part was so so awful :(
I'm an adult and I couldn't imagine having to do that.......

school wow, totally different from the public school. This new headmaster is kind of cruel
how do you tell kids to live like martyrs???
I'm so glad [spoilers removed]
Mami ..."
What are these spoilers up to? Chapter 6?

it gets intense, just like book 1....
how far are you aiming to?

Yeah, I liked it. It's a pretty dark sad book.
I think I gave the first book 3 stars too - but that one I did an audio and the reader wasn't very good....
it's one of those series that are just disturbing and stick with you...

Mami ..."
I am 7 chapters in now, I think.
The headmaster is quite cruel.. He was really annoying and frustrating me!
I was also glad about Bri. Do you think Alex should of let Julie go with Jimmy?
And yeah, I think there are slim chances Mami is alive...

I actually have a pretty strong opinion about it - but only because I've finished the book....
Do you think he should have??
I know, I was happy about Bri too! and she seemed really happy too, right?
UGH! The headmaster. Isn't he awful? So cruel!

She did seem happy! It was all the spur of the moment for her and she handled it really well! :D
He IS awful! D:

I am still reading though! I am in Chapter 13 (page 216)
I just read about the lottery ticket!

Julie is kind of annoying
but I think, just like in book 1, she starts to change and mature with the storyline... I found her less annoying near the end :)

I gave it four stars. I liked LAWKI more but am still very excited for book three to have them meet! :) I put book three on hold at my library so let me know when we should continue! :D

I'll put the next one on hold too!
next month?? I can have the book in just a few days
book one is:
feel free to join Jacquelyn and I as we continue the series!
