message 2: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Yay! I loved the first one! :D I heard this is a companion novel!

message 3: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments yes! I think this is what happens on the East coast (wasn't that where her brother was?)

but book 3 will bring book 1 and book 2 together!

I can't wait!

message 4: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Yes, this takes place in NYC. And who's brother? Miranda's?

And oh really?! That's cool!

message 5: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments Yeah....Miranda's brother...the older one, he was away at school when it first happened and then he made his way back home

for some reason (and I could be remembering wrong) I thought her brother was in NYC at school.....

message 6: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Oh yes. I'm sorry. I started this book a while ago and didn't remember the beginning as well. Now that you say it, it's coming back to me. I do think Matt was in NYC.

message 7: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments it's hard to imagine, but I think this one is going to be even more brutal and more scary - because of it being right on the east coast AND the population is so much more dense.

I think this book might blow me mind a little... I can't wait!

do you watch any of the survivor shows or anything? bugging in/bugging out or bunkers or what not?

message 8: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Exactly. I can't wait either!

I used to watch Survivors, but now watch Siberia, Get Out Alive, shows like that. Do you?

message 9: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments My husband did.
I thought it was pretty crazy watching people pretend the world was coming to an end and either bugging in (prepping their house to defend it and keep their food safe) or bugging out (rushing out, most times to an underground bunker). It was pretty crazy....

anyway, it always makes me think of those shows when I read books like this.

I love that her mom was so smart. Getting all that cash and then sending them off into the grocery store to get vitamins, cans of food, warm clothes (even tho it was summer). They did so many things right.

I can't wait to see how the East coast did!

I'm so glad you read this! yay! Thx for buddy reading book 2! I'm excited to get back into the series!

okay, lol, off to go prep the house for tomorrow. hubby is gone for work this week so I'm on my own with the kids and house.... :) I'll be back!

message 10: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Yeah, I don't understand why people do it but I find them interesting!

Yes, her mom was so smart. One of my favorite scenes of Book One was when they were in the supermarket parking lot fighting for a shopping cart and could get as much food and medicine as they could fit in there for $50. Her mom was so smart. Just gave all of them envelopes full of money and then had them give all the bags to her so she could put away all of the bags and they could go back for more food. Under all of that stress, she handled it amazingly.

I am glad I read it too, it was actually my summer reading book! You're welcome! Thanks!

Good luck with the kids and the house! :D

YES, that part was so so awful :(
I'm an adult and I couldn't imagine having to do that.......

message 35: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments I just finished it....and wow, it's a tough one to get through

it gets intense, just like book 1....

how far are you aiming to?

message 36: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments 3 stars? You just liked it? What was your rating of book 1?

I am aiming to get to about 150 or so.

message 37: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments yay!!! You can do it!!!

Yeah, I liked it. It's a pretty dark sad book.

I think I gave the first book 3 stars too - but that one I did an audio and the reader wasn't very good....

it's one of those series that are just disturbing and stick with you...

message 38: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Yeah, you can say disturbing again. LOL

I am 7 chapters in now, I think.

The headmaster is quite cruel.. He was really annoying and frustrating me!

I was also glad about Bri. Do you think Alex should of let Julie go with Jimmy?

And yeah, I think there are slim chances Mami is alive...

message 40: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments You know, I'm torn. Jimmy's plan sounded pretty good, didn't it?

I actually have a pretty strong opinion about it - but only because I've finished the book....

Do you think he should have??

I know, I was happy about Bri too! and she seemed really happy too, right?

UGH! The headmaster. Isn't he awful? So cruel!

message 41: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments I don't know. I think his plan did sound good! I am torn as well.

She did seem happy! It was all the spur of the moment for her and she handled it really well! :D

He IS awful! D:

message 42: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments I'm sorry I have been so quiet!

I am still reading though! I am in Chapter 13 (page 216)

I just read about the lottery ticket!

message 43: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments no worries :)

how are you liking it??

message 44: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments I am liking it but am finding Julie very annoying. I liked the characters in book one more,

message 45: by Trisha, lives on coffee (last edited Sep 25, 2013 10:36AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments yeah....
Julie is kind of annoying

but I think, just like in book 1, she starts to change and mature with the storyline... I found her less annoying near the end :)

message 46: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Well I hope! (: I am going to try and finish this one tonight!

message 47: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments I ended up liking Julie more than I was! LOL. Glad you were right!

I gave it four stars. I liked LAWKI more but am still very excited for book three to have them meet! :) I put book three on hold at my library so let me know when we should continue! :D

message 48: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments It does get intense though. I think there were more "shockers" in this one.

message 49: by Trisha, lives on coffee (new) - rated it 3 stars

Trisha | 31440 comments Yes, I thought this one - being in the middle of such a big city - was scarier and grittier

I'll put the next one on hold too!

next month?? I can have the book in just a few days

message 50: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 19024 comments Yeah, definitely.

And absolutely! I will probably get my copy on Friday! :D

How about 10/3? Earlier? Later?
