Hi! I'm Joe Gola, a fan of H.P. Lovecraft from way back, and I'm hoping to find some more interesting stuff to read. I've also written and self-published a novel which I think could only properly be described as "literary horror," so it seems natural that I should join the group. I am expecting many instructive discussions about eldritch mysteries and blighted corridors of the human soul, and also maybe some chowder recipes.

Hi folks. I'm just dropping in to properly introduce myself. Bios/summaries/introductions are, of course, supremely uncomfortable and unnatural things (at least for me), but nonetheless - here we go.

I'm a reader (of course) and writer of gothic fiction, dark fantasy and speculative fiction. I have more than a small preoccupation with macabre, arcane, occult, absurdist, & existentialist works, although my tastes tend to cross over into politically and psychologically oriented stories, as well. Hybrids, I suppose. But, so long as there's some literary essence to a piece of work - some facet of linguistic art - I'll probably be on board. Dark, so-called "disturbing" themes, perspective-shattering approaches, works that delve unabashedly and unashamedly into the nature of death, wrath, isolation, terror, and so on: these things are like cuddly blankets. Let me be wrapped in them.

I just purchased your two books (in paperback) from amaZon. It should be noted that one of your books is iisted as John Claude Smith and the other as Mr. John Claude Smith, and an amaZon search will not find both books if one clicks on your name. And congratulation on the five star review "An intertwined menagerie of human depravity from a Lovecraftian POV" keep on trukin!

I should have the books by Tuesday (thanks to Prime), they sent me a free e-book version of one of the books, however I don't have one of any of those readers, so , I could be reading now - but what the heck.

Let's say I won a Kindle in a lottery and it changed my life.
I have some arthritis in my wrists and paperbacks were becoming difficult for me to read. Problem solved.
I have issues sometimes with eye strain. Adjustable font and lighting. Problem solved.
I get twitchy if I don't have my next two or three reads lined up. Problem solved.
I like to have a book with me everywhere I go. Now my book always fits in my purse. Problem solved.
I could go on and on. :)

As for the rest of ya, well, I have a kindle but barely use it, yet am trying to get to the point where it's more regular for me because books are usually cheaper that way, though I still prefer hardcopy versions. I don't want that rare signed Lovecraft to get damaged and...no, I don't have any rare signed Lovecraft. But one can dream...

I know that for many of my acquaintances there exists a very real emotional and/or aesthetic component of reading experience that centers on the book as a physical object (or even as an objet d'art). That sort of mindset can understandably create a very real obstacle to the idea of adopting an e-reader. I’m completely sympathetic to that viewpoint, but personally I’ve always been more of a reader than a collector. For example, we’ve just been talking about Centipede Press. My primary reaction to the collections in their Masters series is that, while they look ultra-nice sitting on the shelf, they’re horrible to actually sit down with and read.
