chapters 16 to 20

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments Ch16 - So it appears Civil is witted. A lot of games being played at the dinner table. And at least one cat knows Fitz is witted and knows about the wolf - So now we are to wonder if Fitz' cover is blown

Hanne (hanne2) | 791 comments Mod
ch16 - i would guess his cover is blown yes. or at least they know that one of their guests is witted with a "dog".

given that the two kids are witted, probably the parents are, and lady besinga would be prime on my list since she replaced all the dogs with cats lately.

it still doesn't completely solve the mystery of dutiful's hunting cat though. why would they give him a super-rare hunting cat, rather than one easily available to them?

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments Ch17 - Ah It seems like the cat is bonded to someone else - which makes sense because those mistcats normally bond with whoever found them as a kitten. So it was probably already bonded when it was given to Dutiful and sending messages to whoever it's bonded with - It's a spy cat! Or secret squirrel!

ch17 - that makes sense! and cats are secretive and misleading enough to try and play this game.
so Cat i bonded to the man who found her, and was given by lady bresinga to Dutiful. Cat then lead Dutiful to Galeton, somehow searching for a girl. And now, the man is trying to keep Dutiful from being discovered and helping him to get away.

This is one big plan for a cat to hold on to.
And who's the girl? The daughter of the man Cat is bonded to?

It would have to be one of Bresinga's daughters (is there more than one?) because they would be making a play for power I think.

bresinga doesn't have a daughter, only a son. there is the greyling girl, but she seems taken up in other things.
I think the girl Dutiful is seeking is not her. And if he is his father's son, I would guess she isn't nobleborn

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments I guess Dutiful could marry in secret and then come back when it's too late to do anything about it and then there's a witted queen in power or at least someone sympathetic to the witted cause.

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments Ch18 - That's one way to get yourself uninvited from a party - suggest a threesome with the engaged couple. That Fool is funny - kissing Civil's hand and adding a bit of tongue.

ch19 - the fool is ridiculously good at these role plays. the scene you mentioned above, but also not trying to sneak out in the night and be suspicious, but blame it on bad hygiene in the inn. i like it!

i'm wondering to what conclusions Laurel will come. she has been in buckkeep for 7 years, surely she heard some stories about the witted bastard with his wolf?
that she doesn't know who the fool is, would be logic, but i guess one of these days she'll know who tom is? (although of course, being supposedly dead might decrease his chances to get discovered)

ch20 - first of all, the whole servant-mask has now completely dropped. it is totally clear that it's fitz who is in charge, not Lord Golden.
and given by her reaction when the young captive asks about the Witted, Laurel did not yet fully come to the conclusion he was Witted. she had plenty of suspicion but i guess it's still something else to hear it confirmed.

message 12: by Rob (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rob (robzak) | 432 comments I liked the Fool in the first 6 books, but I LOVE him as Lord Golden.

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments Lord Golden is very cool

Hanne (hanne2) | 791 comments Mod
he definitely is!

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments Ch19 - So it looks like they hung and roasted one of the witted ones who were escorting Dutiful. It seems like they were very confrontational, wanting to pick a fight.

Hanne (hanne2) | 791 comments Mod
yes, this clan of piebalds seems to seek conflict wherever they go right now, very different to the other witted ones we have met so far that usually kept to themselves.
but someone seems to be ruling this clan with one heck of a purpose in mind, and a naive prince is in the thick of it

David Sven (gorro) | 567 comments Ch20 - What a mess. What will Laurel do with Fitz secret? Will she keep it? Will Fitz be able to return to Buckkeep? Looks like Nighteyes is keeping him on the straight and narrow.
