Anything confusing becomes Kiwi talk. Pass the gooseberries.

Gender thing = obsession with self-editing?

Word play is great. Word pay is better! If only I could convince a few editors to play along now!

Gabi -- Prayers of all denominations your way. No one likes to hear the C-word, but it's beat backable and you're just the sort to more than beat it back.

Debbie -- No, I was kidding. Let me know who's stalking you and I'll get my troll-zapper out....

Wow. Gives "tidal pools" a whole new angle.

message 1330: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Old species found in Tidal Pool in Australia. Shockingly they have spread throughout the world.
There is no place they have not inhabited. Especially along the Florida coast and other warm areas across the world.

message 1333: by Anna (last edited Jan 21, 2010 12:54PM) (new)

Anna Walls (annalwalls) Though I know what a biopsy is, I've never heard of a 'punch' biopsy. It sounds either 'nail' driven or 'fist' driven, both of which sounds like h**l.

And what 'old species' are you talking about? Not that any such thing will make its way to Alaskan waters.

Robyn | 387 comments Akk - pukeville, all this mutual admiration society b/s - what's with you guys? What happened to the loving insults - I don't know, you go away for 5 minutes and the whole place gots to hell in a handcart *mutters to self*

About once or maybe twice a year it snows in Beijing 'naturally' - however this year the government made it snow for Obamas visit - I kid you not!

They seed the clouds for rain, and if the temperatures are low enough instead they get snow...only this time in their haste to impress the prez they made heap big time snow and 6 people died - so their part in it was underplayed.

If ya'all don't believe me - Google it!

Chinese government makes it snow in Beijing

I can't stand the lot of you. Who CARES if it snows in bleepin' Beijing?

(How'm I doing?)

message 1338: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Playing weather man again, were they. When we mess with nature things go awry. Let's see we have natural elements, weather elements and human elements, put those all together and that is a lethal combination.

message 1339: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments You are knee deep in snow so who cares if you care not for the Chinese. (is that better)

message 1340: by Robyn (new)

Robyn | 387 comments Ehh, I think you can do better - but it is an improvement :)

I found it difficult to adjust to a climate that was below freezing but there was no frost, no moisture at all. The humidity is so low, there is no frozen ice on windscreens nothing. The grass is all brown the same as NZ in the summer, burnt by cold, and usually no rain, no (or hardly any snow) - so of course November's snow doesnt go anywhere - then more in January (natural, it seems) a very heavy fall, unusual for here, which doesnt go anywhere either - it just sits there until spring. (Yes, I know, poor punctuation in that sentence.)

I guess that's the purpose - moisture flying by, in the form of clouds that will usually not empty here, artificially induced to drop here, either rain or snow. Then it freezes, acting as an insulator - especially from the wind - melting in the spring and adding to the water table and watering the plants as it does so. You might be imagining a dirty, dusty city but Beijing is a city of gardens and parks with tree lined streets and gardens lining the edges and middle strips of the motorways. Most times of the year there are flowers everywhere. All these gardens take an extraordinarly complicated system of watering - especially as the city is really part of an encroaching desert. I admire their gardening prowess, especially as the climate is extreme.

message 1341: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments I did not know Beijing was in a desert area. It is not part of the Gobi desert, that is too far northwest isn't it? I do not know much about geography.

We are considered a desert area, the flatlands do not get the snow, but it does get cold around here. I know one time there was a dusting of powder in Huntington Beach, Ca. several years ago, but that was unusual. They probably seeded our clouds also.

Cms2004 | 8 comments Hi everyone! My name's Colleen, and I just joined Goodreads today. I was an English major in college and have my MA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. I'd rather read than eat, and all my friends make fun of me for being a "grammar goody-two-shoes." LOL I live in Norfolk, VA with my husband (who's an officer in the Navy) and our three-year-old son. We're also trying for Baby #2. Anyway, I'm really new to this site so I'm just getting used to things, but I'm happy to be here!
