In theory there should be no problem but somehow, from what I read and not from any personal experience, Amazon has an overcomplicated methodology.

Yeah, I think I'll stick with my own name, certainly until I start on the weird romance novel that I have knocking around that's so different that I have to use a different name...or else.

Still, interesting to see that there are ups and downs to it all. I genuinely think it's hilarious seeing people comment on social media how they had to buy Robert Galbraith's book (because it was Rowling) with no respect or acknowledgement of the book itself. Surely a branding success, but a writer's worst nightmare...

Hello. I am D.M. Stoddard, author and artist for the Kingdom of Torrence series. It is a fantasy for youth to seniors. The storyline takes place in a world I created. Maps and histories are included.

Each book starts and ends with a bards tale. The first book, The Legend of Jerrod, was released in January 2013. I anticipate a re-release in September. I am currently writing Amanda's Quest which should be released in 2014.

Bisky, you are so right about "nanowrite". The whole time I was doing it, all I was thinking about was how many words I could get accomplished in a day rather than actually focusing on my story. Ultimately, my love for it was not the same anymore. I didn't get that type of freeing, awesome sensation from when I first wrote it. Thank you. I wish you good luck as well :D

@Bisky That's amazing, I love the title of your novel by the way :) what's your editing process?
For me, I've always had trouble editing because my story always is radically different from what I intended to happen and I incorporate too many things and I just get a whole mess in the end. I don't how to sift through all of it efficiently enough D: But I guess it is partly my fault because I hate plotting, I let my characters take control.

@Brenda that's what I do as well. I make notes as they come to me in my notebook, but where writing is concerned it's a matter of sitting down in front of my computer and just writing what my characters tell me. It works for me :D

My editing process is awful! Don't follow it :p

With ADWF I did alot of planning. So I already kinda knew where I was going from :3 I just recently added a chapter though so having to change things accordingly :p

I pick a word count to stop at (to stop the problem I had with my other novel running into the 200ks :P) and then start reading back through. I just try my best to get the continuity right, and add in scenes i think it needs. Then I read back through again and add descriptions, tastey similies and such. Then! I go back and check spelling and that the sentences flow well :p Sometimes I do it in strange orders though :x

@April Haha, that's awesome! Whenever I try to take notes about my story, I always feel as if I'm taking away from what I really want to happen. I don't know, it's all about the mystery in what's going to happen next I guess!

I'm a big believer in letting the characters taking control, and I actually let them decide the plot.

Usually, before I start writing, I'll have beats of the story mapped out, and then I'll look at (main) characters: each one has to have something (however small) to do at all points of the story, and should have an arc/growth in and of themselves. Story/arcs get tweaked until I'm happy, and then I start writing.

Usually, first draft is bare bones dialogue and stage directions of about 50k words. Second draft expands on that, but I'll also move/change scenes to better suit the flow at this stage. I also find myself hitting on interesting character combinations that help/change their arc, and that builds things up from there. Then, before draft three, I go back to my character arcs and the overall plot.

It's worked for me so far, and yielded some surprising results: one character survived Godhead because I thought her arc too much fun to kill her. Another got culled because I couldn't justify his arc and it was too similar to someone else's. I'm also currently writing the sequel, and thanks to my OCD levels of needing to know where everyone is and what they're doing at any given time, two characters have run into each other and had a quick catch-up and I've suddenly realised there's a chemistry there that actually plays into both their characters and the bigger plot. And suddenly, the entire series has shifted direction slightly, just because of this new dynamic.

I make notes of what my characters tell me either about themselves (when introducing themselves) or something they need to tell me when I'm away from my computer other than that I have no ideas I just sit and write what they tell me. In my last book I had to leave them for a week and they were not happy (talk about sulking so it felt to me) mind you it might of had something with me leaving them straight after they had found a brutal murder scene!

Glad you think the flying idea has, um, legs. It's not about acrophobia, but there are going to be a few other nasty things about both travelling The High Road and what's been lurking around it, trust me on that. (Or, don't just trust me, check out my other book; I see The Wrath allows that much.)

I've never believed in characters arguing with me, exactly; I'd rather build them to fit my needs and then listen closely to what I've got before I start writing. (Measure twice, cut once?) But letting them change the plot would be fine, if you were willing to chop away and add scenes based on what have now become the story's needs.

@bisky haha, i love when my characters talk to me. Especially when they give me short but impactful phrases. Here are two (from Road to the Grave):
"Into the fire, into the grave." Woke up with that chant in my head.
and "I am the grave that I have buried in my mind."

It's so fascinating... like where in my brain did this finally surface from? lol.

Hi. Thanks for the invite. My fantasy "Daystealer" is currently rep'd by Talcott Notch. I've drafted the sequel "Nightstealer" and have plotted the third, "Bonestealer." These books are part of a series I call "Stealersaga" which is the name of my blog where I get to write non-fiction as well. I read YA (anything but contemporary) but it looks like my books might be for the adult market. I love to talk about the writing process and analyze books since I used to be an English teacher to teenagers.

It’s okay to have imaginary friends, or characters generated by the unconscious mind. It’s a bit like having the spirits of the universes living in your head. It’s when you actually start holding conversations with them that’s it’s time to visit the physciatrist.

When I sit down to write, and I’m usually writing three to four manuscripts at any one time – the characters of each work spontaneously argue amongst themselves to see who takes centre stage.(Not really - but I like to think they do.)

I love to read and I am currently working on my first Graphic Novel series which will be introduced to the world through my web comic. The plan is to start publishing this September. The story arc is 7 volumes long and I have been thinking and working on it for the last eight years. Its time to let the baby out. My debut novel 'Become' is out September 17th it is a crime thriller. Tony Lewis slowly tumbles down the rabbit hole of the criminal underworld in search of justice. But as he heads into the darkness the shadows consume him, until only darkness he can see.

I have just had my first interview by a newspaper reporter and starting to feel like an author.

My next project is 'Becoming' the prequel. Every story has two sides. 20,000 words down.
