@Ken (cos we Kens gotta stick together.) I've always liked the idea of a superhero who can fly, but is afraid of heights. Like, a crippling, horrible fear that he/she can't overcome (not just an "I'm scared of doing this.")

After a particularly rough day (some 1500 "Mummy"'s before hubby got home, I threatened to start writing dialogue (using my characters Llew and Jonas) like what I partake in each day:

"Jonas."
"Yes?"
"Jonas."
"Yes?"
"Jonas, Llew is, ah-- Jonas."
"Yes?"
"Jonas. Llew is, ah, Llew is killing something again."
"Oh, cool."
"Ah, Jonas..."


Honestly... it seems the harder I work to tire him for a good long afternoon sleep the less he sleeps (just leaving me tired!). Luckily, he will be off to kindy soon. I should find a little more writing time (or at least silence... silence would be nice), then.

Not that I don't love him to bits, you understand... But I am an introvert. I need more silence.

Thanks for the invite. I write romantic fiction with a dash of paranormal. I've also written a memoir which has my own personal experiences of the paranormal in it. At the moment I'm writing the sequel.

Hello everyone and thanks for the invite Bisky. I have self published a book of poetry called Different Kinds of Emotions and have decided that self publishing is not for me (I don't have the patience for advertising sadly!) I have just finished my first novel which is also the first in a series of 4 books called:
Double Magick in The Falls book 1 A Candi Reynolds Novel it is a Urban Fantasy :paranormal fantasy/murder romance novel. I am now looking for a publisher or agent. I have started writing the second book in the series: The Prophecy. I have only finished the first page and that was on Monday for some reason I just feel to tired at the moment to write granted I have energy to read though!

@Charity I know what you mean! I have alot of baddies who are completely sick in the head in my books, but I don't know why I find it so interesting! I love creepy things too but I know I would never sleep again if I saw a monster in real life :p

No I'm just catching up on rest as new characters kept introducing themselves when I was trying to get to sleep. For a week there I was running on about three hours sleep a night. What can I say they keep yapping I won't be able to write. I think they've decided to let me rest as there gently adding information that I jot down in my notebook instead of blasting me awake like they were.:-)

Exactly the same here. I don't have a heap of baddies, yet, but my debut ended up delving into a little horror (completely unintended) because the horrid fascinates (and repels) me - especially if done by humans to other humans... it just amazes me how horrid we can be to each other.

I usually have some pretty awful things in my books. I often hope no one thinks its personal experience. There is always one psychotic parent, but mine were amazing! No complaints. I think it freaks me out to wonder how I would have been without them.

And I havent had a phone for a while, I miss notepad apps sooooo much :x

I love writing suspense short stories and the most fun characters to write are the psychos :)

I always wonder what would happen if the goverment got a hold of my internet search history and discovered all the ways I've looked up how to dismember and dispose of bodies :x

Yes same as also how to torture someone while keep them awake as long as possible as well. How to efficiently break bones, and a simple neck break to kill someone as well. That was also in book 1 as well as searching to clean up a crime scene :-) yeah they would probably think all writers are mas murders by our search history :D

Haha, oh god, I'm so glad I'm not the only (relatively) well-adjusted and sane person with horrible stuff happening in my book.

Though it was totally fun to watch True Blood a few weeks ago when a character stood on and crushed someone's head. Actually sat forward and exclaimed "THEY STOLE THAT FROM MY BOOK!" (I don't believe it, but it was a pretty awesome visual, whatever it was in.)

Yeah ghosties! My mum died when I was 13, my sister 8 and someone told me about seances. We did them with an ouija board and although in some ways it was comforting it was pretty scary. I'd never do them again!! It's all in the book!

Hello everyone, my pen name is Hamilton Hill and I'm currently giving life to a five book series called - The Roads of Luhonono. It is a story based on African fable and is about a mirrored world.

In Africa the living walks in a physical dimension, and their spirits (the Unseen), repeat the process in a mirrored but ethereal element. All the living, be they animal or human, have an Unseen double walking the road of life with them.

Your spirit double, according to your persuasion can be a guardian Angel or Demon and the distance it walks upfront is separated in time. That time could be a minute, a day, a year, a millennium. Whatever the time-span, all life’s future information, good or bad is gathered by your ‘Unseen’ double transmitted to its living image.

When a shaman born of evil called MaovuMoja (Mow-Voo-More-ja), initiates a ritual to break the mirror and turn everything upside down. The spirits call the only pure soul in Luhonono for aid — Magdalene, an American born shaman who has lived twelve, of her thirteen years of life, in Luhonono. She in turn, seeks the aid of Peter, a warrior soul from Australia, and Gimbo, local resident and all round ‘Mr Fix-it.’

I started writing my first serious story back in December. Before that I mainly wrote fan fiction while I waited for a good idea to hit me. The story I am writing now started out as a fan fiction actually. Just something fun I with a friend, nothing too serious but eventually we decided that the plot was too good to use for a fan fiction so we are now finishing the fan fiction and then we will rewrite the whole thing without the fan fiction elements.

It's going to be series that has now received the working title Wanderers' Tale and it's about for people ending up in an other, medieval like dimension where they are prophesied to defeat the villain. One of those for characters struggles with major emotional problems which makes everything a bit more complicated and interesting!

I am still waiting for True Blood season 6 to arrive in Ireland just saying not impressed with having to wait!
One of my scenes is seriously gory well okay more than one of them but one made me feel a little queasy which is kinda gross since I'm writing it! but at the same time I can't help thinking that was a seriously good! If your going to have murder and torture you gotta do it right :D

Totally fun if you write something that does that. My cousin's girlfriend was reading my book on her holidays a few months ago, and happened to be reading a small scene set on a plane while they were going through some turbulence...scared the life out of her.

April, you're not the only one (waves from Earlsfort Terrace) but I found ways around it. My sources tell me it's on FX starting end of September; not sure about TG4.

Its funny how pseudonyms come about. When I write childrens picture books (which I will be releasing later) I will use the name K as my dad wanted to name me K. Just K. Because it would be 'easy to spell' -.-* sigh.

Ooh, can I jump in here and put out a general question about pseudonyms? Who uses them, how easy are they to manage etc?

I've written my fiction under my real-name (even to the point of shortening Kenneth to Ken, like I do everywhere else), but the next book I'm working on is non-fiction. It'll still be fun, and sort of related (there'll be an overlap in readership, bound to be) but...it's non-fiction. And because of that, I'm toying with the idea of publishing under Kenneth (rather than Ken) in an Iain (M) Banks sort of way.

It's only a thought, but I'm wondering what other people think of the general topic? Especially since we seem to have so many genre-benders in here.

I normally write historical and my agent didn't want me to use my own name on the YA series - said it would confuse my platform - the discussion was at a coffee shop in a suburb named Hamilton Hill, so the suburb unknowingly became an author.

Since I'm going to self publish I was just going to put it in two accounts, since its picture books for kids I didn't think it would be good to put a baby book next to the violence in A Dance with Fury :p

@Ken if you have built up a following under your own name, there is little point in using a pseudonym unless you are writing to a totally different market.

@Bisky - since you write for children, the pseudonym 'K' is ideal as a cereal killer (bad pun intended). The plot could be that the villain is so fixated about how bad cereal is for children he sets off to the supermarket to kill them - so kids, K is really a hero.

I am currently working on a short story fantasy called Women of the Waterfall. My progress on it is slow but steady!
I started out writing a novel two years ago called Road to the Grave (which I have yet to complete) and somehow I got lost in the mix of things. So many stories came flying at me and I stopped that novel after I tried doing it for NaNoWriMo. It was a big failure, of course, but now I am trying to get my writing experience in so that I will be ready for that novel when the time comes. I hope to start on it next year.

@Brenda. Hi! I dislike nanowrite so much. getting people to write a certain amount in a set time is always a big no no for me, everyones process is different. Not completing it and 'winning' can turn people off writing more than on to it. I guess it works for some who otherwise would say 'no I have too little time' but when I logged on to the site last year I found it alittle demoralising, as well as getting so much spam from them in my email /rantover.

I hope you have good luck with your novel. I have hundreds of projects I want to start, its just devoting your time to that one special one at a time :3
