"I don't know. I'm not a mindreader. That's why I asked," Richie said with a scowl.

"That you broke up with him?" Richie asked.

"Just curious," Richie said.

"What?" Richie asked defensively.

"What does that mean?" Richie asked annoyed.

Richie scowled at the phone. "Fine."

"I don't know," Richie said. "Do you regret breaking up with him?"

"Well that makes me feel good," Richie muttered.

"I see," Richie said stiffly.

"No. We're not," Richie said.

"I'll talk to you later," Richie said, no longer in the mood to speak with Poppy.

Richie hung up and stayed up till all hours.

Richie hadn't slept. He got ready for school and pounded downstairs, not in a good mood. "Come on, pug face," he mumbled to his sister. "I don't have all day."

Richie drove his sister to school and then drove to the high school where he sat in the parking lot.

Richie saw Poppy and sighed. He walked into the school and into his first class.

Richie caught up with Poppy. "Hey… can we talk?"

Richie walked to his car and opened the passenger side door for Poppy.

"Okay... I want things to be back to normal between us," Richie said.

"No more fighting… and if that means we can't… be together then let's not. I still want to be your friend," Richie said reluctantly.

"Okay," Richie said with a smile.

"So…" Richie said.

"You can go out with someone else," Richie said softly.

"Then what do you want?" Richie asked.

"Okay," Richie said. "Alright."

"You should go. You have your classes," Richie said.

"Ill see you," Richie said quietly.

Richie unlocked the doors so Poppy could get out of the car.

"You okay?" Richie asked, glancing at Poppy.

"Poppy," Richie said softly, not wanting her to leave.

Richie leaned over an kissed Poppy.

Richie pulled away, gazing at Poppy. "Bye," he said softly.

Richie exhaled as Poppy got out of the car. He watched her leave, sadly.

Richie smiled at Poppy and raised his hand in a half wave. He backed up his truck and drove away from the school.

Jeremiah, a new boy in school, nearly rammed into Poppy. "Watch where you're going."

Jeremiah looked Poppy up and down and smirked. "What?"

"No way am I begging you," Jeremiah scoffed.

Jeremiah chuckled but ran after her. "What class are you headed to?"

"Art," Jeremiah said grinning. "I'm Jeremiah."

"Yeah," Jeremiah said with a smile. "Are you old to the school?" he joked.

"Cool," Jeremiah said, walking into the art classroom.

Jeremiah sat down at his seat, wondering what the teacher would assign.

"Settle down, class," the Mrs. Delano said, clapping her hands.

"Today I want you all to do a project. It's going to be the Week Long Partner Project, where I'll assign you to a partner who you don't know well. Each day you'll turn in an art project. Got it?"

"Alright, I want Poppy with Jeremiah..." Mrs. Delano continued until she called off all the names. "Okay, you have thirty minutes to sit with your partners and get to know them. Have fun."
