Rose jumped at his voice and jerked around. "I... no! I needed to protect myself," she scoffed.

Phoenix raised a brow. "From what, exactly." he asked. "No one is here."
"But, you told me not to open the door," she said, confusion leaking into her voice.
Phoenix walked into the kitchen and put the bread and milk away. "Yes. I did. Next time, just trust me." he said. "I said I'd protect you."
She bit her lip. "I do trust you, I was just... adding some more protection for myself."
Phoenix smiled lightly. "You'd get nowhere with a kitchen knife."
"I would! I could stab someone," she scoffed.
"Not with what you would be fighting. You'd either be dead or running." he said.
She sighed. "You have zero faith in me."
"At the moment. Once you start to develop better strengths I'll start being more confident about you."
Phoenix chuckled. "Glare all you want." he said. He walked around and behind her, intentionally brushing his hand against her back.
Rose shuddered as she felt his hand, blushing softly. "You're not nice at all," she muttered.
"Not really, no." Phoenix said.
She couldn't help but chuckle at his words.
Phoenix smiled and went to the living room. He sat on the couch and grabbed his book.
She walked after him and sat as well, but instead lied down on the couch, feeling lazy. She sighed.
Phoenix started to read his book.
"What are you reading?" she asked him curiously.
"Lord of the Rings." he replied.
"Really? Favorite character?" she asked curiously.
"Full of questions aren't we?" he teased. "Um...I'd have to say..Gimli."
"Really? Mine is Legolas, or Aragorn," she grinned cheekily at him.
"Of course. To a girls perspective they're cute." he teased.
She chuckled. "You figured that out fairly quick."
Phoenix rolled his eyes and turned back to his book.
"Aren't you crushing on a female character?" she chuckled.
"You sure? Not even Arwen?" she teased.
She smiled softly at him. "Well, you're hard to please? Do you have a girlfriend or something?"
Phoenix shook his head. "No."
"Wow, I actually thought you had one, I mean, you're an angel," she smiled a little.
" Exiled Angel." he corrected.
"Still," she teased. "An angel."
She smiled at him. "Well, and you're nice, and sweet and protective," she was lost in thought. "I mean, any girl would be lucky to have you."
She smiled back softly and turned to look at her hands. She knew he would never like her in that way, I mean, who would like a freak?
Phoenix got up and stretched. He saw her looking at her hands. "What's wrong?" he asked crouching in front of her.
"Nothing is wrong, just thinking about my parents," she lied, smiling softly at him.
"No you're not." he said. "You can't lie to me."
"I'm not lying," she scoffed. "I just don't know who my parents are anymore. Since I'm Fey," she tried to distract him.
"Yes, you are. You cannot lie to me."
