Yay Lynn! I'm excited for you to lead the discussion. The waiting list for this book at my library is really bad too. I put it on hold a month or two ago (along with a bunch of others), and it's the only one still on hold.

There are plenty of copies but all checked out - when you try to renew a book online, they do not let you and they alert you that someone else has placed a hold on the book, so I'm assuming there are some jerks out there just holding onto theirs. I may end up buying the book because the premise sounds incredible.

*edit lol jk I just checked my library account and a copy is in transit, which means I'll have it by Tuesday or Wednesday, yay :]

Claire (claire6452) | 718 comments This is the only goodreads group I've joined. I'd been looking at a number of public groups to see if there was one I thought would be a good fit for me, but none of the others I checked into seemed to have the same amount of enthusiasm and creativity that this one does.

I absolutely LOVE all the great ideas for challenges that people come up with! And everyone seems to be very welcoming and friendly, with lots of encouragement and suggestions. And, of course, the moderators do a great job keeping everything organized!

I wouldn't be too surprised to see the number double again by the end of the year.

Brian (brianfinn) | 638 comments Hi mods! Would you guys consider maybe announcing when the polls are available for next month's Group Read in its own sticky thread - with a title like "April's Group Read Poll is Now Open - Cast Your Votes!" or something similar - in the Group Reads topic where the nomination threads are?

Right now, they are rather tucked away as posts inside the Mod Corner and seem out of place to me. As a new member when I was less involved in the group, I don't think I looked for new posts in the "A Word from the Mods" thread (I love to now though!) nearly as often as I looked at new posts in topics that were about book discussions, choosing what to read, and reading challenges.

Just my two cents here :) It's just since the polls are open for a very short amount of time, making this announcement more prominent as members scroll through the forums would in my opinion draw in more voters. I realize you can get to the poll by scrolling to the very bottom of the main discussion page, but I actually didn't even notice that until about a month ago! I don't really ever scroll all the way down because you hit Archived folders, friends in the group, members in the group, and the Bookshelf listing the past group reads we've read before you get to the poll.

We have 3,455 members now, and for the March Group Read poll, 81 people voted. That's 0.02% of the members in the group. I realize we had probably about 200-300 less people a month ago and of course am aware that probably hundreds of members never even sign into Goodreads, but I think it's still worth a shot if it's possible for you guys to make that happen. If not, no big deal :] I love this group and am happy with it, but just thought that might help improve new member participation. Joining a new group can be overwhelming.

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Because the group has grown so quickly (and we expect it to grow even faster once we start doing our 2015 prep), we have decided to add another mod. Congratulations to Cassandra!

Cassandra has been a wonderful contributor to this group and also a member of our welcome committee. We're excited to have Cassandra join the mod team.

Brian (brianfinn) | 638 comments Yay! Congratulations Cassandra! I know you will make an awesome mod!

message 59: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Thank you to Kara and the mod team for giving me this great opportunity to give back to this group (and Brian for your kind words). I'll introduce myself quickly for the people I haven't had a chance to talk with personally.

I'm a 21-year-old information science student from the Pacific Northwest. I just got into my program this year, and I absolutely love it! As far as reading goes, I tend to read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, but I'm really open to anything. I always want to read more nonfiction, but somehow it always ends up a little farther down the "to-read" pile than the fiction. I love to chat about books and swap recommendations.

I can't wait to see what 2015 holds in general and for this group in particular!

message 65: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments After a long run as a moderator of this group, Adriana has decided to step down due to other obligations. Adriana has been a wonderful mod, and I've truly enjoyed working with her. Adriana will be staying with the group and leading her current yearly challenges, but she will be taking a step down from mod duties.

Thank you, Adriana, for everything! <3

message 72: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire6452) | 718 comments Thanks, Adrianna, for all of the time you spent helping to make this such a great group. It's not easy to moderate something as big and complex as this group, and I know it's a huge commitment of time and effort for all the mods.

message 73: by Janet (new)

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 784 comments I think that some people had a hard time finding a book to fit January's theme(or couldn't figure out a way to relate the book to the theme. I think that the March theme should have a lot more participation.

message 74: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments An announcement: Craig has been stepping down as moderator as well. Thank you, Craig, for all you've done!

And because every action has an equal and opposite reaction, Jodi will be joining our mod team! Jodi has been with the group since February of last year, and has posted more than anyone else except for me and Adriana--amazing. She's truly a dedicated, engaged member of the group. She's also been an active member of the Welcome Committee where she's made our newest members feel welcome. Congratulations, Jodi!

message 75: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire6452) | 718 comments Congratulations, Jodi! You'll be an excellent moderator for the group; you obviously care very much about the whole group and its activities, and your comments add so much to the general discussions here. Great choice!

Thanks, Craig, for all you've done to make the group such a good one, and I hope we still see you around here a lot.

Claire (claire6452) | 718 comments It's such a good thing to know that so many people are interested in helping make this group work so well. With our great mods, all the people who volunteer to lead the challenges (you amaze me with how well you keep them updated!), and so many others who are willing to help, it's no wonder that we're growing so quickly!

Congratulations to the new members of the welcoming committee! I'm looking forward to working with you and getting to know you!

message 85: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I'm having massive trouble with Goodreads notifications not showing up. It's worse than normal, so if you've asked me a question or tried to get my attention in a thread, please feel free to send me a private message. I don't want to miss anyone's comments! I'll do my best to manually check topics as well.

message 86: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) | 1971 comments Hi Everyone!

This is a first for us, at least I think it is. We had a tie for our group read poll this month. For the month of July we are going to have two group read books. Our two books are going to be Water for Elephants and Americanah. Joanne is going to lead Water for Elephants and Cassandra is going to lead Americanah. I hope you all will join us in one or both reads.

Cassandra | 5832 comments I'm very happy to announce that Mary Pat, Kadijah Michelle, and Jackie B are joining the welcome committee!

The welcome committee works hard to send out messages to new members and help encourage existing members with their challenges. I'm excited to work with these ladies as we head into our busy end-of-year season.
