James Stoddard | 11 comments My novel, The Night Land, A Story Retold, ISBN 9780615508818 is a complete rewrite of William Hope Hodgson's "The Night Land" (1912--in public domain) I could only find it in a search by typing in the ISBN, and I am not listed as the author--only Hodgson is. The reviews are for the original work. My version is very different--Hodgson used difficult archaic language, had no characterization or dialogue, etc. I know this is an unusual case, but can someone find a way to differentiate my book from the original? I am also the author of "The High House" (Warner Books) and others. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It was added without any mention of you as an author. I've added you to the rewrite so all 41 editions now show on your profile. Since Hodgson is listed on the cover he gets a listing on Goodreads.

EDIT: I've separated your two editions so that only those two show on your profile

how's that?

James Stoddard | 11 comments Thank you so very much! That's great. I appreciate you doing it so quickly. This book always requires an explanation, which is understandable. Most people don't rewrite somebody else's book, but Hodgson's original novel is a work of genius, and it's a shame more people haven't read it. Updating it for the modern reader without losing the majesty of his vision was a tremendous challenge. I don't know if I succeeded, but I appreciate you giving Goodread readers the chance to judge for themselves.
