The library in the actual town I live in stinks. So I go to another one in the county which is so much better!
I love it! They have so many great YA new releases! It is pretty big, I get to keep the books for 3 weeks. Pretty wide variety. Also there is no limits, except if the book is a summer reading book! :D

Yeah, I do that. That's the only reason I go to the one in my actual town, to pick up books I ordered from other libraries!
My one library is quite boring. Mostly Dutch books, barely anything in English (I believe the last count they had was 12% or so was in English). You can only borrow 6 books max every time (last year it was way more, now it is expensive and you can't borrow much). 3 weeks. Not a wide variety.
An another library I go (other town), also no wide variety, even less English books (for kids/YA there is only like 30 or so books, with barely anything new). But you can borrow 15 books (so I am happy), 4 weeks.
Luckily there was this deal, if you have an membership at one library in the province, you can get another membership at one other library for only 5 euros. So I am really happy that exists, since otherwise I wouldn't have been able to have 2 library memberships and would have to do with only 6 books at a time. (both membership would cost about 40 to 60 or more per year x 2 would mean too much money. Now it is only around 39 euros + 5 euros.)
So yeah, I really wish my libraries had more English books (especially YA or atleast fun adult books, since most are romance or thriller).
Ofcourse there is the possibility of having books send from other libraries, but the problem is that costs around 2 euros each time, and again, most libraries here in this country don't do English books.
I am totally blessed with an award winning wonderful library in my own stinky tiny backwards little town. I don't know how we got so blessed but its one of the best libraries I've ever used.I have a 30 book check out limit, but then you can get a ton of other things out too...

My favorite feature is I can basically do all my searching on line, request a hold, and they bring it to the front desk for me and text me when it's in. Then I just stop in, get my book and be on my way.
Very friendly staff who all know me now, lololol.
Also they are spectacular at ordering anything I request. It's like having my own personal bookstore sometimes. I make a LOT of requests but I hope that other patrons benefit from them as well.

I also love requesting holds! Perfect for all of those buddy reads I want to join! I actually just got back with 4 books I held and they are all for buddy reads!

Wow, lucky, that sounds like a wonderful library.I wish I could order anything, but that costs money, and if it is an English book... then there is a small chance they actually get me the book. :(
And requesting a book that is actually there, making a reservation costs about 1.25 euro at one library. :(

Oh wow! Libraries are supposed to be FREE! It takes the whole point of a library away :(
They have never been free here, always been costing money, depending on if you are a child or an adult (and with adult you can pick one that fits you) it will cost you a certain amount of money. Same goes for reserving and such. Nothing strange. :) How else are you thinking they get money for books and such? Otherwise they won't survive that easily.

My library sells used books, they get money from that and they also have donation envelopes! :D "They do that here too, but that is not much (only 1 euro or so per book) and there aren't that many books too sell, or people want them (I can imagine, a bar code on the middle of your cover isn't that attractive and the state of the books when they get sold is mostly not that good). Donations, sure, but with a crisis, not everyone will be able to do that.
So they will rely on membership costs and reservation costs and also I believe they get a little bit of funding from the government/city, not sure though.
I see. We have a few bookshelves full of books we can buy. Some aren't my type but at one library they have a shelf with YA!

Oh lucky, a shelf with English YA books. *would love that, and would probably buy most of them*

Here our libraries are funded by the provincial government and also operated by them too.We can borrow 10 books at a time but only for two weeks. We can only hold 10 books at a time too. Some of the holds on books are very long. I am number 72 waiting for
.If you return books late, you get charged fees and they do make some money that way. They have a great selection, there is always something I want to read available and for the books with the really long holds they usually end up buying more copies so the list goes faster. I normally only borrow ebooks and audiobooks online from my library. I don't actually ever go into the numerous libraries around town to borrow paperbacks because I have a bad memory and don't want to pay late fees. By having a library card for one library I can borrow from any of the libraries in town if I want to.
Wow! Number 72?! My library has a fee of 10 cents per every day the book is late. I have been fined a few times!
30 cents per day here when the book (or cd/dvd/game) is late per day.
Wow! :D I think the highest fine I got was 80 cents! Oops!
Not sure what my highest fine was, probably about 1,80 or so because I was sick and couldn't bring it back and already had extended the loaning period twice, so I couldn't have it any longer.

We don't have a limit, have 3 weeks as well and we can only renew 3 times! (I believe)
I don't know the limit but I can have a book at my library for 4 weeks.

We can only have 3 weeks and renew 3 times. I can imagine they don't do allow more, since the library isn't that big and also otherwise people will just hog a few books for a long time, eventually ending up with the library having less books. :(
My library has a lot of books, but most are ones I've never heard of. They do order a lot of new releases though. I can have 30 books checked out at a time for 3 weeks each. But you can renew them up to ten times unless there's another person waiting for it. I've never been fined. (:

My library holds a lot of books. They have a section just for teens and its filled with YA!!!!!!:) I was sitting buy the bookshelf with 8 books next to me and reading one in my lap :DI have no idea what the limit is because I once left with 15 books. :/ They are 3 weeks also, but I can renew them online up to 4 more times.

Haha! When I was down I was putting them away and couldn't help but notice most of the books on the shelves were falling over, not in the right order, etc.. so I was fixing all of them!! Shelf by shelf because I organize way too much. One of the librarians was watching me, she came up to me and asked how old I was and I said 13. She said when I turn 16 to think about volunteering here because she says I would bse able to organize a lot of the books, (I love organizing :D) And now I can't wait to turn 16 :)))))))))

I guess I am volunteering already, but not "officially" Lol! I go all the time and I am always looking to fix shelves :D!
Since I live in NYC I go to many libraries, there are like three near my house and three near the high school I go to. All of them have greats books and also new ones that just came out. :D

Oh I wish I could volunteer at my library (or any of the libraries here). :( Too bad they don't allow it.

Same for me! And we have 40 or 50 libraries around the area that you can get books from.
I love my library, I think the selections they have are great and everyone's nice and I love to volunteer there!
Our library here is horrible. Our YA section is.. Like, 2 shelves.

My library by itself isn't that special, but it's connected to a bunch of other libraries so I can reserve stuff from those and they'll send it to mine for me to pick up. In that sense, it is amazing! You can hold 50 books at a time (though I've never done that many!) and have a month for all books. If there are no other holds you can check them out again, which I usually do online.
My library is fairly big, but it doesn't have much of a variety when it comes to YA books. There are three shelves, and most of the good/popular books are usually checked out, anyway.

Gisbelle, it is probably the best thing in existence. I had 15 books out last week and they said are you sure you don't want more? I was thrilled. (And still am)
lol really? wow it's so cool :) My library (the one next to my house) has 30 books limit, but most of the books there are nonfictions, so I don't go there much. But the other one which is a little far from home has great YA and juvenile fictions sections :) Also 30 books limit.

What is your library like? How long can you keep the books? Do you have a limit for how many books you can get? Is there a wide variety of books at your library?
