Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) does it haver a virus? Because I went to the page.

message 152: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I doubt it... It's just a GR group, but it's still spam.

message 153: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) Meghan shouldn't be allowed to do that! I don't understand the point!

message 154: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) She's not allowed. Lori doesn't allow people to advertise like that without getting to know us all first. She's got rules in place for those kinds of posts.

message 155: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) Will Lori kick her off? And what is she advertising? I'm sorry about sounding stupid but Goodreads is the first thing like this I've communicated in.

message 156: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I mean, I like Cashews as much as the next person (except for maybe people who are allergic to them), but there's only so much you can talk about regarding them.

"What shape is your favorite cashew?"
"Half-moon, yours?"
"Mine is half-moon, too!"
"Do you like salted?"
"No, dry roasted."
"Oh. I like salted."
"Oh."
...

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) Well hope my info about Alibris is helpful to someone and I'm looking forward to reading the two June books.

Stupid people Suck!

message 158: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have The Woman in White on my DS, but will need to find a copy of the other book.

message 159: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (sureshot26) | 94 comments Well this seals it - I'm going to have to break down and read Pride and Prejudice, finally. I can use it for a task in the summer challenge, and I love the idea of zombies in Jane Austen, so, yeah, gonna have to.

message 160: by Susan C (last edited May 25, 2009 01:43PM) (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) I read Pride and Prejudice about 6/8 years ago. It was a little slow but in the end I really enjoyed the book especially once I realized who had the pride and who had the prejudice.

I've never read a zombie book before, so I am looking forward to being entertained. I Hope!

I've read different places that The Women in White is the first real mystery novel and started the genre. I'm sure it will be good whether or not that's true.

message 161: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I love Zombies. They are so much fun! O_x

message 162: by El (new)

El Lori wrote: "I havent read P&P either.... I broke my classical victorian cherry with Wuthering Heights and really struggled to get into it... I dont think I could handle any others any time soon (gulp)"

I love that you said "classical victorian cherry". I just choked on air while laughing at that. :)

But I have to say you shouldn't let that stupid book get in the way of you reading other classical literature. It's not all bad or that hokey! I love me some classics, and I hated Wuthering Heights.

message 163: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) I loved the classics: Jane Eyre, The Count of Monte Cristo, In Cold Blood, Anna Karenina and Dracula. I've also read ones I greatly disliked i.e. Of Human Bondage. Yuk!

On Easton Press's web site you can get a list of the 100 greatest books (classics) and the 50 greatest books of the 20th century. If you can't find them I'll email them to you.

You just need to find ones that interest you and it definitely helps to talk to others for their opinions of the book!

message 164: by Liz (new)

Liz I have a copy of P&P&Z in my room, so I think I'll join in for that one!

message 165: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
El, please dont misunderstand... I LOVE classic lit... just not victorian lit... I wont read Jane Austin, Bronte, ect.....because of that book.

I did, however end up at borders with my 40% coupon and found that P&P&Z was buy one get one 50%... so I picked it up!!!

and Meghan is gone. I booted her out. I hate that crap!

message 166: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) here it is Monday, end of the 40% off at Borders and I never made it to Borders! Oh well, at least the Library promises Woman in White by the end of this week. Good shopping Lori

message 167: by [deleted user] (new)

I have just finished The Woman in White, which I read through www.dailylit.com They send you daily instalments via email, or twitter links, or whatever, and it's free.

Interesting to read it in serial fashion, as the book was originally written as a serial.

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Wow Hayes,
Thanks for the link! Does it remain available in your mailbox....?? I mean, does the link to the book disappear or can I always go back to it and reread it?
Thats pretty cool :)

message 169: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Lori, I can read The Woman in White as I have that on my DS. BUT I can't read the other book as I can't get a copy from my local library.

message 170: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Thats ok Titch... One is better than none, right :)

I am sorry for being annoying. Our goal in the group is 2 advertise it. I will leave ur group right now. Please forgive me.

message 172: by Cathyb (new)

Cathyb | 43 comments I thought that The Woman in White was going to be the winner so I ordered it from B&N over the weekend. Not a bad price for the hardcover.

I don't think that I will read the P&P&Z book.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Meghan wrote: "I am sorry for being annoying. Our goal in the group is 2 advertise it. I will leave ur group right now. Please forgive me. "

That seems kind of pointless. Shouldn't your goal be to meet like-minded people that you can have awesome conversations with? Why would you create a group for the single purpose of spamming others?

Four. LOL. Guess I'll be reading that one first, and then P&P&Z

message 176: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I guess I am six.. I am torn, because I don't think I'll have time read both.

Diane (dianedj) Vicki wrote: "I guess I am six.. I am torn, because I don't think I'll have time read both. "

I won't have time to read them both, so I am going for The Woman in White.

message 178: by Potjy (new)

Potjy | 127 comments Seven... but in fact I've read about 40 pages and YUCKKKKK! I like zombie, but can't stand Austen.

message 179: by Joanie (new)

Joanie | 714 comments P&P&Z was all sold out at my Borders! The woman who helped me said they had just gotten a bunch in but they all sold! Do a bunch of you live near me and are just keeping it a secret?!?!

message 180: by Susan C (last edited May 27, 2009 12:49PM) (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) Alibris has at least 9 new copies for P&P&Z for 5.70 as I'm writing this.

Use the coupon code Jack to get 1.00 off.

message 181: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) I looked up what I paid yesterday, 6.70 from the same seller through Alibris.

I think the book sellers have gotten wind of our demand for the book and are competing.

Amy | 21 comments Joanie wrote: "P&P&Z was all sold out at my Borders! The woman who helped me said they had just gotten a bunch in but they all sold! Do a bunch of you live near me and are just keeping it a secret?!?!"

I know it's been one of the selections in their most recent "Buy one, get the second at half off" (or whatever they're calling it) promotion, so maybe that's why...?

ETA: Oh...also, if it's not on the "Buy One, Get The Second Half Off" table, look in the Humor Section of the store; I'm not kidding. When you look up the book on the Borders search terminals, it tells you that the book is shelved in humor. And that is the case at the Borders I frequent.

message 183: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) Do any of you use Alibris and their coupons?

message 184: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) YAY. The Woman in White is at my library today so I can pick it up after work and start it tonight.

message 185: by Cathyb (new)

Cathyb | 43 comments My copy of Woman in White arrived tonight while we were out for dinner! Will wait until June to start - having surgery on the 1st and will have two weeks with no work so I can get a lot of reading done. Maybe I will finally be able to put a dent in my TBR pile - unless I spend all day reading blogs and book groups.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments I could swear I've seen The Woman in White around the house somewhere. But it seems to be hiding currently.

I shall keep looking, however.

message 187: by Cathyb (last edited May 27, 2009 08:02PM) (new)

Cathyb | 43 comments Pride and Prejudice and Zombies can be found in the Teens section in my local B&N. Is this really the level of the book?

Jill (wanderingrogue) | 329 comments Cathyb wrote: "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies can be found in the Teens section in my local B&N. Is this really the level of the book?"

As I've said...it's Pride and Prejudice with zombies. Having read the book, I wouldn't have put it in the teen section.

message 189: by Elena (new)

Elena I am looking forward to read these 2 books this month, great choice! I started The Woman in White last night. So far it has grabbed my attention.

message 190: by Lori Ann (new)

Lori Ann | 105 comments I've read Woman in White and really enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I should read P&P&Z because P&P is my most favorite book, I'm afraid of ruining it with this... Those who have read it and love P&P is this a valid concern to have?

message 191: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Lori Ann wrote: "I've read Woman in White and really enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I should read P&P&Z because P&P is my most favorite book, I'm afraid of ruining it with this... Those who have read it and love P..."

I feel the same way. I don't really have much of a desire to read P&P&Z, but I'm interested in hearing what P&P fans think of it.

message 192: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) I've read P&P. I just hope there is enough of a twist of the story tomake it interesting.

P&P is not a book I planon reading twice.

I'll let you know my thoughts since I'm reading both June picks.

message 193: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (hnybee411) I'm like #30 on the waiting list for P&P&Z at the library. Somehow I don't think I'm going to get it read this month.

message 194: by April (new)

April (booksandwine) | 954 comments I recently ordered both of June's group reads. The Woman In White can be found in the bargin bin section of betterworldbooks.com and I bought P&P&Z on amazon for seven bucks (with some other things for the free shipping).

#107 of 107 holds! Bwahaha...there is no way I'll get my hands on this book in June. This looks like a months long wait.

message 196: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) It seems like even the online booksellers know it's a hot item right now, because they're all around $7-$9 plus shipiing for used. You might as well buy a new softcover at those prices.

message 197: by Amy (last edited May 30, 2009 11:38AM) (new)

Amy | 21 comments I just started P&P (figured I should read it before P&P&Z.) Slow going so far...I have to get used to the language/syntax of it all.

message 198: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) I started The Woman in White this morning. It hooked me immediately, so far anyway.

message 199: by Susan C (new)

Susan C (somersetpurplegmailcom) I will start it Monday the 1st. It has been on my shelf for quite some time. I love it when you are challenged to read something you already own, but have skipped over for other reads.

Yes, me too; frankly it doesn't happen often enough in my case. I got this copy from the library, which I'm using more now. I love the library, and hadn't used it since I was a kid!
