Heidi Peltier | 71 comments My book says 49 people added it but fewer than that are listed as "to read". So if they "added" it, what does that mean they added it to? Just curious. Thanks!

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 217 comments Yeah, this confused me for ages as well!

It simply means that 49 people have added it to their shelves. You'd be amazed at the myriad of custom shelves that some people create...!

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Okay so, some of them maybe added it to their 'to read' pile and perhaps some of them added it to shelves comprising their 'already read' section? Its probably just the way the site reports popularity level in this case..

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 41 comments People have numerous ways of categorizing and organizing books. Whether or not they've read them or will read them or they want to read them. That's the primary reason GR was started, as an online organizational system. Point is, don't worry about it. You can assume so much and still be wrong. There are better thing to obsess about. LOL!

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments Yeah more time then most it will just be on the 'to-read' list unless they create a folder which sometimes is unfortunate inappropriately named and aimed to criticize the author. Mainly though the numbers mean how many people have marked it to read.

Arabella Thorne (arabella_thornejunocom) | 354 comments I think some people just hoard...I saw one person who had thousands of books to be read!

Heidi Peltier | 71 comments OK, thanks, y'all. I was just wondering. I agree, Arabella, that some people hoard. Kind of like all the people who "liked" my facebook page when I had an ad running, most of them are from Europe and don't seem to speak English and never interact on the page. They just clicked it to click it. Whatever!

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 41 comments I know I have many on my shelves I would like to read, but it might take me a while to get to. I use the shelves sort of like using a bookmark. So I don't forget. You know, like when you go buy music but then can't remember all the songs or albums you want to buy. This way I can go through my list of books that caught my interest and see which ones to read. Currently, I have about two dozen+ loaded on my tablet in various stages of being read.

For authors: That's why marketing is so important. Tons and tons of books to choose. You have to join groups and get to know people, virtually and real world. Sell yourself and make friends before you try selling your book.

Arabella Thorne (arabella_thornejunocom) | 354 comments Oh I so understand,
...NOW...I have just published my first book and I feel as if I am swamped in chaos! and not only do you need those likes but God bless you you can't do any book bub or book blast or Storyfinds without a certain number of reviews. So I am in my first blog hop "the Hot Summer Heroes blog hop"
sponsored by Bellamediamanagement who did my lovely cover and website. Does a blog hop do anything? Except attract people who hope for a chance at a gift card or a free electronic download of my book? Is it just an electronic version of swag...hoping one person or two might actually read you book and review it?
Dang..it is bewildering!

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 41 comments Blog hops are 50/50. I find joining read to review threads the most helpful, that and building my fanbase by getting to know people. I also had a booth at big Comicpalooza this summer. That gained me several new fans and contacts. Plus you have to keep writing and adding to your library of work. Each to book/short story will help sell the rest.
