Interesting points. I would say because via Amazon I have so many books at my finger tips I am slightly affected by star ratings. I think of it as an additional filter as a result of the increase in choice. I've been on Goodreads a while now and I'm starting to be a little more sophisticated when looking at the ratings and working out whose opinion/ recommendations carry more weight. Not necessarily because they're better or worse reviewers but on the basis of the type of books they enjoy and how it relates to my own taste.
