Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Leslie - what a good idea to suggest The Brothers Karamazov for the group classic read as there are clearly a lot of us now intending to join you in June! And I for one would probably not get to another classic, plus my own challenge, in the same month. I'd already been wondering whether to spread it over two months (for myself, I mean)

Another reader for The Brothers in June 2014. I braved Tolstoy with other readers last April and found a new favourite book (Anna Karenina) so it's time I read another Russian author!

I read all of Game of Thrones in one go. I loved it. Hope he finished the next book in the series soon

Pink, Jean, Leslie, Jenny, Gill...count me in for Dostoyevsky month. Would love to tackle "The Brothers Karamazov"

LOL! Rahat, you know me too well! ☺

Roderick and Heather, that is great! I think that we probably will make it the group classic, as so many people are willing to join :) In the meantime, though, I will add you to the readalong list.

Even if we leave it up for nomination/voting it looks like it would win!

Anastasia (universe_beats) | 401 comments I'm going to read Mozart's Sister and then Too Much Happiness. Probably these two will be the last of the month and 2013 (!!), but maybe I'll be able to finish A Visit from the Goon Squad in time..

Well, I don't know what to think about it too.. some chapters are interesting and involving, others not so much, and the whole fragmentary structure doesn't help..

message 310: by Vicann (new)

Vicann | 30 comments I'll be taking back Anna Karenina by Tolstoy back with me to Suffolk to read over Christmas at my parents. I'll also be reading A Christmas Carol whilst I'm there, and reading the rest of American Gothic Tales by Joyce Carol Oates (almost halfway, and enjoying it).

I'd like to join a a read of The Brothers Karamazov, I've had a copy for the last year and haven't got round to reading it yet.

message 311: by [deleted user] (new)

Enjoy Anna Karenina. I read that earlier this year and thought it was wonderful

message 312: by Vicann (new)

Vicann | 30 comments Thanks, Heather! I've wanted to read it for a while now, and I'd like to read more Russian literature next year.

Giacomo Rimatori | 34 comments I'm starting Gone Girl which is a Goodreads choice for 2012, thus I'm having quite high expectations even if I'm not into crime-thriller that much. I was looking for a page-turner after a few slow books.

I want to read that soon, I know what you mean about wanting a page turner!

I've read that too, and I didn't rate it very highly either.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Hmmm - my friends here rate this between 2 and 5 stars. How intriguing! It looks as though I'll have to read this for myself quite soon!

Yes, I'll be interested to see how you rate it, Jean.

message 321: by Pink (new)

Pink I think I rated Gone Girl 3 stars, it was nice and quick paced, full of suspense over what was going to happen....but I really, really went off it by then end!

Yes, me too. It started well enough, but all went downhill in the second half, I thought. Mind you, it is quite popular, so others like it...

message 323: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I read both your reviews, which are nice and helpful thanks. It strikes me that it must be quite a quick read :)

I agree about Gone Girl, Pink! I thought it started off quite promising and then it started to annoy me.

Alannah, I really like Gone Girl too, even though I didn't like the characters much!

message 330: by Bionic Jean (last edited Dec 28, 2013 06:19AM) (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) OK, I give in! I have to read Gone Girl and see where I fit in! It's my 40th wedding anniversary tomorrow (don't really understand how that can be since I'm surely only 35...) and apparently this story starts with a wedding anniversary. So maybe tomorrow would be a good day to start it, and hopefully finish before all my January reads :)

Pink Jean, happy anniversary for tomorrow, I hope you celebrate it differently to what happens in Gone Girl ;)

message 335: by Bionic Jean (new)

Just finished The Poisoning in the Pub ready to start Gone Girl this evening. Tomorrow I hope for rubies :)
