Leslie - what a good idea to suggest The Brothers Karamazov for the group classic read as there are clearly a lot of us now intending to join you in June! And I for one would probably not get to another classic, plus my own challenge, in the same month. I'd already been wondering whether to spread it over two months (for myself, I mean)

Another reader for The Brothers in June 2014. I braved Tolstoy with other readers last April and found a new favourite book (Anna Karenina) so it's time I read another Russian author!
I read all of Game of Thrones in one go. I loved it. Hope he finished the next book in the series soon

Roderick and Heather, that is great! I think that we probably will make it the group classic, as so many people are willing to join :) In the meantime, though, I will add you to the readalong list.

Even if we leave it up for nomination/voting it looks like it would win!

I'm going to read Mozart's Sister and then Too Much Happiness. Probably these two will be the last of the month and 2013 (!!), but maybe I'll be able to finish A Visit from the Goon Squad in time..

Egan's book left me ... perplexed Anastasia. What do you tihnk about it?
About to start A History of Reading tomorrow, after preparing the Christmas tree

I'll be taking back Anna Karenina by Tolstoy back with me to Suffolk to read over Christmas at my parents. I'll also be reading A Christmas Carol whilst I'm there, and reading the rest of American Gothic Tales by Joyce Carol Oates (almost halfway, and enjoying it).I'd like to join a a read of The Brothers Karamazov, I've had a copy for the last year and haven't got round to reading it yet.
Enjoy Anna Karenina. I read that earlier this year and thought it was wonderful
Thanks, Heather! I've wanted to read it for a while now, and I'd like to read more Russian literature next year.
I'm starting Gone Girl which is a Goodreads choice for 2012, thus I'm having quite high expectations even if I'm not into crime-thriller that much. I was looking for a page-turner after a few slow books.

I didn't enjoy it, but I seem to be in the minority haha! I hope you enjoy it though :)

I want to read that soon, I know what you mean about wanting a page turner!

Hmmm - my friends here rate this between 2 and 5 stars. How intriguing! It looks as though I'll have to read this for myself quite soon!

I think I rated Gone Girl 3 stars, it was nice and quick paced, full of suspense over what was going to happen....but I really, really went off it by then end!
Pink wrote: "I think I rated Gone Girl 3 stars, it was nice and quick paced, full of suspense over what was going to happen....but I really, really went off it by then end!"Yes, me too. It started well enough, but all went downhill in the second half, I thought. Mind you, it is quite popular, so others like it...
I read both your reviews, which are nice and helpful thanks. It strikes me that it must be quite a quick read :)
Once I have finished Alias Grace, I hope to get started on Breakfast at Tiffany's since it is quite short.
I agree about Gone Girl, Pink! I thought it started off quite promising and then it started to annoy me.
Becca wrote: "I agree about Gone Girl, Pink! I thought it started off quite promising and then it started to annoy me."Shame! I hate it when that happens.
I think my next book will be 12.21, when I have finished that I will have successfully completed my 2013 challenge. :)

I don't know why but I liked Gone Girl.

Alannah, I really like Gone Girl too, even though I didn't like the characters much!
OK, I give in! I have to read Gone Girl and see where I fit in! It's my 40th wedding anniversary tomorrow (don't really understand how that can be since I'm surely only 35...) and apparently this story starts with a wedding anniversary. So maybe tomorrow would be a good day to start it, and hopefully finish before all my January reads :)
Jean, happy anniversary! That is quite an accomplishment. I haven't read Gone Girl either. I feel like I should.
Happy anniversary Jean! Enjoy the book
Jean, happy anniversary for tomorrow, I hope you celebrate it differently to what happens in Gone Girl ;)
Thanks guys :) Hahaha Pink I guessed there might be something rather nasty in the offing... Just finished The Poisoning in the Pub ready to start Gone Girl this evening. Tomorrow I hope for rubies :)

Something rather nasty, hmm perhaps we'll have to discuss more once you've read it! Oh and rubies would be nice Jean!

Happy anniversary, Jean! May tomorrow bring you great joy and rubies!!
Happy anniversery Jean! Any plans apart from reading controversial books? ;) Gone Girl waits patiently on my TBR for me to gather the motivation to actually read it, I will be keeping an eye out for your review!
Jean wrote: "That actually sounds quite festive, Shirley! :D Thanks!"Ha ha, now I feel like one of the three wise men, but seriously, I hope you enjoy your special day!
I am going to read a mystery (or 2) before tackling our BoTM, The Golden Notebook, and The Game of Kings.
I think I'll be starting And the Mountains Echoed. I've never read anything by Khaled Hosseini before so this counts as my January theme challenge.
Good luck Chimney! How's krampus the yule lord going? I don't know what I'll read next. I'll figure it out.
Good luck Shirley! ^_^ I may read whatever wins the group read poll at the tattered tales club next but we'll see. It doesn't get picked until Tuesday though.
