But there weren't any female characters like him, so I wanted to change that!

Not most of a manuscript, but I've discarded big chunks. It's totally not fun, but I know that what I'm doing makes the book better. If there is some writing that I particularly like, but doesn't work for that scene or in that place in the manuscript, I save it to a separate document so I might be able to use it later.

Zoe | 30 comments Lacy wrote: "How old were you when you started reading romances? Do you remember the first romance that totally captured your imagination?"

Probably around 14. A friend of mine started loaning me her mother's romances. I used to read them under my desk in class, and then I'd go over to her house on the weekends and we'd literally just lie around and read. I think Something Wonderful by Judith McNaught was one of the first romances I read that really stuck with me, even though I've read hundreds.

That's a good idea to hold onto passages that might work better in another work.

I feel you on the need for female Indiana Jones type characters.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish What one thing, above all else, must a hero have to make you fall in love with I'm?

I started at around 11-12. Danielle and I were both raiding our mom's romances in the basement. But didn't know it. I would read mine in class inside of my textbook. :)

Hehe. My first historical romance was Fires of Winter by Johanna Lindsey, my mother's book!

He needs to respect the heroine.

What out of all the scenes from all your books are you most proud to have written?

Every book has a scene or two (or more!) that I'm really happy with. Though I like the action sequences, I always like a good exchange of witty banter between the hero and the heroine, or even when one of them thinks or says something poetic or profound.

That is crucial with a hero for me as well.

How much research do you have to do for each book? For instance, with the Blades of the Rose, it seems as though you researched folklore and mythology extensively and it shows. Do you research as you go, or complete a lot before you start the next project?

I do a lot of research, and it varies depending on what book I'm writing. Sometimes it's the folklore, sometimes it's the geography of a place, or the rules of a card game, or how much a train ticket might cost. Some of the research is completed ahead of time, and some happens as I go, depending on my needs.

Are there websites you find particularly helpful for historical facts?

Yes, hands down it works for me Zoe. The older I get the less I remember. I do not have time to go back and re read previous books. When I am asked to remember books that stretch out in a series over years it is just plain impossible. I very much appreciate that your three books now in GR files will all be out by October increased the odds of me reading the series exponentially.

I Google stuff all the time, and there are certain websites I return to many times to get information.

Just to list a few...

Lacy (lacylaces) | 28 comments Do you listen to particular music when you are writing? Does it change based on the genre or story?

Time really does fly when you're having fun. We're almost out of time, but we could probably get in a few more questions.

Thank you so much, Zoe. We loved having you, and although I was already a fan, I appreciate your books even more. I am glad you are contributing to the literary world with your writing. Please consider yourself welcome any time you want to hang out on the DHASG!

Thanks to everyone who popped in to say hi/ask questions.

Zoe | 30 comments Lacy wrote: "Do you listen to particular music when you are writing? Does it change based on the genre or story?"

It definitely varies. Sometimes it's Indie music, sometimes it's movie soundtracks, and other times, it's stuff from the '80s! But I usually like to have some music going either for inspiration or to block out the ambient noise around me.

A long time ago, I thought about being a costume designer, but I'm not much for wearing costumes myself. But I love it when I see people in really great costumes at different conventions.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Thank you for answering our questions!! I loved this!
